I have on order a Ltd BRZ in WRB, and got my VIN 2 weeks ago. I just checked my VIN Online and it also came up as a 2018 Series.Blue.

Perplexed.

Ah. Okay. That's strange. The Series Blue was a 2015 model. Not sure how Subaru f'd that up.

Out of curiosity, can one of you share your VIN number? It's not like it's top secret or anything.

So, with a sample size of two, (certainly statistically significant), it seems that 2018 Limited factory orders get a designation of series.blue. I'm wondering of some Subaru computer programmer noticed that a group of VIN selections were not being used and used it to designate an individual factory order. Again, it doesn't have any effect on owning the car or registering the car. So does this mean we can join the series.blue registry??????? (No need to reply as it is a rhetorical question.....)

Series.blue is not a model. Limited is not a model. Those are trim levels. Your DMV and cops don't really care about the trim level.

Subaru probably reused some series.blue code this year and didn't update their system properly. It won't make any difference until 60 years from now when somebody will be trying to justify an extra thousand dollars on the price because it's a "rare series.blue" based on the VIN.

Actually, if you refer to the Subaru website, Premium, Limited, and tS are considers "models" and not trim levels. Please try again.....

That said, I totally agree with you about the computer tech who decided to used some unused numbers. Perhaps I'll take your suggestion and advertise this car as a very, very, very rare 2018 series.blue specimen. Sounds good to me....

If you're paranoid I can check on Subaru's VIN Inquiry just PM the last 4 of your VIN.

It sounds like they messed up at the dealership so the DMV just copied/pasted whatever they had onto the reg.

Subaru is using the word incorrectly. They don't get to just ignore industry conventions and make up their own definition. If you consider the Limited and Premium to be different models, all that shows is that you're a sucker for Subaru's silly marketing nonsense.

Look, Jalopnik gets it:

If you still think "Limited" is the model, try calling the dealer and saying, "I need parts for a Subaru Limited." They won't have any idea what you're talking about, and they'll laugh at you once they get you off the phone. Because it's not a Subaru Limited. It's a Subaru BRZ with the Limited trim package.

Again, they didn't mess up at the dealership. This comes directly from Subaru. How many times do I have to say this?

What Factory Paperwork are you talking about? I assume you’re not referring to the Monroney Sticker because nobody really refers to that as “factory paperwork.” And I bet the monroney doesn’t say your car is a Series.Blue either.

In our internal system, vehicle status reports and vehicle invoices sometimes have conflicting trim names because of whoever puts them in. Oddly, this only happens with the BRZ.

For example, on the VIN Inquiry Database Series.HyperBlue’s are listed as 2016 Series.Blue. All of them.

When the BRZ tS’s were allocated, the Blue ones were listed as “BRZ 2.0 tS” while the White and Black ones were listed as “BRZ 2.0 Limited.” On their invoices they all say “2.0 tS”

Whatever this is, it could be a glitch or the Series.Blue could be a trim level placeholder on the software. In fact, we still have Tribeca and “Impreza WRX” listed as options on our vehicle inventory search network.

If you were desperately curious, just go to your service department and ask them to print out your VIN Inquiry Report.

If it really does say Series.Blue, then wow.

My 2016 BRZ Limited comes up as a "Limited/Series.Blue" when running a vehicle history report. Never thought much of it.

I don't think this issue is tied to a specific model year.

Listen, people. I really don't care about what's a model and what's a "trim level" (which isn't really defined anywhere). I was just curious about why I saw "series.blue" on the detailed VIN report. It looks like none of you really know, but I was just curious and thought that someone here had real knowledge since I am new to Subaru and the BRZ. So let's not get into the weeds here. If anyone really knows why, speak up. Otherwise, I'd rather count how many angels fit on the head of a pin....

BTW, the specific data from the VIN indicates the following:
Subaru BRZ 2.0 LIMITED/SERIES.BLUE

i'll let you "experts" fight about what is a model and what is a trim level... Perhaps you can teach something to the folks at Subaru...
