You don't develop negatives you develop film to get negatives. In theory the film should last a long time if not exposed to light but 40 years can be a long time for chemicals to remain stable.

Bet ya ten bucks the "film" is viable and will produce useable "negatives". My niece is off to college this year, and my sister is half-way there to letting me set up a darkroom in her bed room.

Why the quotations? It is film then it is developed to negatives which are then printed as pictures. I have had 10 year old film developed and ended up with nothing but washed out, grainy images I am not optimistic in how well 40 year old film would work out. When we are talking the cheap ass film I could afford it was barely able to last months after being exposed much less decades.

LOL Not even sure I can find a place to develop them now. Could be some cool stuff. I will give it a shot.

There's a guy on Instagram taking car photos with new film with expiration dates in the early 90's. The end result is "vintage" and in many cases blemished. Cool pictures though.
35mm_carphotos or something like that. |

Playing with the configurator. If I start a go-fund-me, will you pitch in for this not-green version?

There were a number of photo companies which provided drive thru kiosks. As far as old film goes you'd be surprised how well some types last the years. I had a roll of 127 I shot in grade 7 developed 25 years later and the photos were all good. I used to shoot Kodak 5247. That was professional 35mm movie film which produced both a positive and a negative. There was a company out west that bought up unused movie film and loaded it for 35mm still camera use. Even at the best of times it was a hit and miss proposition because each batch needed a slightly different emulsion. But it was inexpensive, something like $10 for a 36 exposure roll including postage and developing. |
