For looks mostly, I'd go springs. I've been running Hotchkis drop springs, on OEM dampers for over 70k daily driver miles, and lots of weekend twisty mountain driving, and I have no complaints.

I'm not going to argue one vs the other, but I just want to point out that my KW V3 coilovers are quite comfortable, and pretty close to stock ride comfort. It's one of the reason I chose them as I live in Chicago, where the roads are horrid.

Why aren't leaf springs ever an option?

My view is also that coilovers can add a lot of complexity for suspension tuning. With springs generally you're just adjusting camber. Coilovers have a lot more fine tuning that CAN be done (especially those with different top hats) and this also leaves a lot more room for error. I'll take a spring that I can't mess up, rather than coilovers for my DD needs.

Swift Spec-R on mine, 1" drop I daily and I track, also have camber plates on top for more camber. Great combo with my MY17 shocks and TRD USA sway bars.

Transverse Leaf Spring? Been there, done that (Triumph Spitfire/GT-6).
Who votes for Torsion Bars? Did that too - Porsche 924 Turbo. |

TRD springs + Koni yellows (direct replacements). Looks good and rides great - the Koni's are adjustable, so you can go from as soft as stock up to pretty darn stiff. For reference, the wheels are 17x9, +35 with 225's (these tires run wide) and had no fitment issues.
Unless you really need the performance or ride height adjustability of coilovers (and want to increase your budget), lowering springs are a great choice. There are plenty of great spring options for this platform, and pairing them with Koni's will allow you to preserve your ride comfort.
