FA20CLUB 11 month engine build review *****FAIL*****

As many of you know by now I blew my motor back in March of last year. At the time I had just installed the Fullblown Premium kit. Well I poked around on the forums looking for a shop close by and couldn’t find anything. People living in Florida told me to get a hold of @FA20Club.com because they were in Fort Lauderdale. So I did a little research and got a hold of Toni and we worked something out.
On Apr 4th the car was picked up and taken to Tr3 Performance (shop Toni works with/at) to start the rebuild. The motor, transmission and turbo kit were quickly pulled after arriving to see if they could tell what caused it to blow. Turbo kit was installed correctly but the internals were so jacked up it was hard to say. Now only thing left to do was wait for parts which were all ordered within the first week of the car arriving to the shop. It took almost two months to get all the parts in. The last thing to arrive was the rods we ordered, carrillo rods but they were having manufacturing issues so Toni canceled the order and went with Pauter.
While we were waiting on everything to come in I opted to have the heads sent off to get ported and polished. It took over two months for this entire process. They lost rockers as well as some other parts. Toni blamed the shop that did the work, that guy said he never had them and so on. Only reason I even decided to get the p&p done was because I had money left over from going to the Pauter rods and Toni said it wouldn’t cost much more. The heads finally came back and the bill was $1600 and that’s what I owed Toni. I asked for all the info and flow chart on what was done and a print out of the bill and never got it. I told him I didn’t have that much money at the time due to my circumstances because I was expecting maybe $800 a most for the work. I don’t know if I was getting charged for the lost parts or what. While this was all going on the turbo kit was being built and was finally done like 4 months into the build or better.

It took over 9 months to complete the build. Along the way the communication was excellent Toni said it would be easier if I just sent him txt msgs if I wanted updates. Which is exactly what I did. I called a few times but never got an answer. At about the 4 month mark communication went down the drain and it started taking him 4-7 days to respond. I started getting excuse after excuse as to why It was taking so long. First set of excuses I got was Tr3 Performance didn’t like to work, all they wanted to do is party on the boat and go to races and they didn’t want to hire any more people. Then everyone kept going on vacation. One of Toni’s guys quit, other thought he only had to work 20 hours a week and sometimes didn’t even come in and at one time one fab guy was going to school and so on. I was told one more week about 25 times and it never happened because ppl weren’t in the shop. One time was because they had to pull intake to weld a crack in the water channel that they knew about from the removal process. Finally got it all back in and a few weeks went by and they started it again and the valve lash was all messed up and the motor was pinging like crazy. This could have been because we used valves from Fullblown and they were cut shorter, I don’t really know. So once again had to pull motor out and remove the heads and take them back to the shop to have shims made which took several more weeks before motor was put back in. I think the motor had been in the car for about 3 months but forward progress was almost non existent it seemed. Finally the car got on the dyno and only made 370whp but was having fuel issues or so I was told. So Toni decided to do a return system FREE of charge (how kind of him). I mean he’s only doing it to develop one to put on the market. After all I was a test dummy for this entire motor build. Anyway, took almost month and a half to get the fuel system made and back on the dyno to complete the car. The last time the car was on the dyno it made 460whp but he had to stop there because he said he wasnt sure if the clutch or the tires were slipping so he had to back off the power. He later told me he thought it was the pressure plate going bad. I had them install my AEM wideband which he waited until the last min
to install. After the install and it came time to load the car on the truck back in January it would no longer start. Turned out it was the DI controller they got that fixed and sched another pickup which took a few more weeks and that put us at the end of january early feb. I seen a video on someones facebook page while they were on the dyno at TR3 turns out my car
was sitting on the lift i asked Toni about this and he told me it was on the lift to keep it out of the way. However i was informed by others it was on the lift because they had my exhaust off to mock another one up. So he more or less lied to me when he said no work was being done to it and it was ready to go. Feb 8th car is ready to go on the truck yet again but guess what it was making a rattling/knocking noise Toni checked the clutch said that wasn't it so he thought it was rod knock. Me and him had agreed to a partial refund of $1500 and he would help me pay for parts so i could send it to another shop. But on Feb 10th he found it was was the clutch assembly that was loose to that deal was off the table. So i scheduled someone to pick the car up myself and i should have it back Feb 17th we split the shipping. He offered to ship it back for free a few times when he was having issues but didn't want to pay for it when he got it running in between breakdowns.

WHY DID I HAVE POSTS REMOVED

well he threatened to put a lein on my car for $4000 that he says i owe him. As for the exact charges i owe him for i have no clue he never sent me a bill or anything. but here is a few he told me about. Fuel return system that he told me wasn't needed from day one and he installed himself and said don't worry about it. I even asked him if he was sure because i was tapped out on money because i'm getting out of the military and have a newborn baby. I owed him $1600 for port and polish that he never sent me a receipt for so i could pay him. I had a $500 credit or so from switching rod brands as well as i gave him a set of valves for the shop car. He lost the rockers and some other head parts which i think he was trying to charge me for which is why i wanted a receipt from the guy who did the head work but i never got one. He org said it wouldn't be that much for port and polish. Then he tried to charge me for yanking the motor out to fix the valve lash and have shims made as if i made the mistake of not checking the heads for them before they threw them on the block and put motor in. Last but not least is the DI controller he said he wasn't responsible for frying and wanted me to pay for.

I have no problems paying for the head work if hes got a legit receipt as for the rest none of that is on me at all.

Toni also didn't install half the crap i wanted such as the 6266 turbo instead i got a 6262 because he said housings were easier to find but never told me he was doing this at all. I asked for red tial bov/wg and he assured me had them in stock as well as red couplings. Mind you my turbo kit was done month ago. He tells me about month and a half ago that i got turbosmart instead because they switched brands about 3 months ago well after my turbo kit was supposed to have been done.

All in all he lies and doesn't follow through with anything he says he will do. I didn't get a single video dyno sheet or anything in the 11 months hes had my car. He sure as hell put out videos of all his locals cars that thinks he's gods gift to tuning the fa20 platform. I would rather shoot myself in the head than deal with him again

i removed the threads because he threatened with the lien

so ya if you want 4 month plus wait times, lost shipments, crap patrts or even clones of other parts then fa20club is excellent. If you want quality customer service and parts in a timely manner go with someone else.

anyone else who is having issues go file a complaint here

Wow...just wow.

This would be third or fourth negative review this guy has gotten on here in the past 6 months, isnt it? Wish there was a rule that vendors would be perma-banned if their negative reviews outnumber their positives by a wide margin.

props to you for posting this in the right sub by the way. very few people seem to use this area for what it's for and choose to pollute the higher-traffic areas instead.

Sounds like some of the horror stories i used to hear about Forged and TopSpeed (both from atlanta). Forged has some epic build rip off accounts posted on the interwebs.

Hopefully your car will be sorted in short order and you can put all this behind you.

People ask me why I don't take my car to shops and are surprised I do all the work myself...

I visited the TR3 performance shop and met Toni not long ago. I like him actually, cool guy. I think he has too much on his plate to make things right, but I can't feel sorry for him because he doesn't want help.

Excuses aside, when you own a business you need to make customers a priority. If you can't do that, you don't know how to run a business. Car people are very VERY sensitive about their vehicles they are buying for and repeat business is lucrative if you have good customer relationships.

So when you realize that you should be making parts for people for their cars, instead of selling parts for cars that people own, you will capitalize.
