What's in a car? The FT86 is an enthusiast car and we are car enthusiasts. We don't need CD players and air bags we're risk takers wheel turning tire burning speed addicted Car Enthusiasts. We're a dying breed we know the car is an extension of our imagination and expression of our freedom. We smile each time we execute a perfect turn because it's in our blood. Others won't know they can't see the world as we do. They don't drive their cars they let the car drive them ever removing themself from what was. They can have they're electronic assists that's not what we want. We are the Car Enthusiast and this is our car.

This cant be right.. If it was hand built, the car would exceed in amount to profit in sale. Unless the price is risen to 35k+ range which is unlikely.

i'm guessing 1000 units a year is for japanese markets only, not world wide. and by hand made they probably meant assembled by people and not robots. obviously the actual metal and materials are formed by machines but put together by human hands. this entire time they have been saying this would be a 20k car, things aren't going to change so dramatically out of nowhere.

it's built by Subaru at a Subaru plant which will be the only location for FR-S/BRZ/GT86 production. nothing in any of the press materials or press articles i've read indicates any of what is being discussed as far as this car being hand built or limited in quantity. if that were the case I'm sure it would have been reported long before now. of course things can change, but the variables just don't add up to what this guy is telling us, though he seems confident and somewhat credible in his assertion only because he appears to have been physically at the launch (i'm sure he was there, but this is still the internet).

This hand built news is bumming me out, I really wanted to get this car. It will definitely be destined as a collectors car but I want to get some fun out of it.

Hey Leeky,
Since you'll most likely be the first to get to sit in a GT-86, on Wednesday could you sit in the back seat and let us know whether it's usable or not? cheers :happy0180: |

I wonder if they're referring to the current variation seen in Japan (and well released to the Japanese market) with all the stuff thrown in? I recall someone once mentioned that the BRZ will have low numbers as well (3k?) but that also seems unlikely.

The title seems misleading. "NEWS from Japan!" would have been more appropriate. Anyways, thanks OP for the information; however, some of it could use some clarification, as previous poster have noted.

Leeky,
Just wanted to say thanks for all of the great photos and info. It is really good of you to take the time to post this info as I am sure this trip has kept you very busy; I am sure you must be just exhausted from the journey and overwhelming joy of seeing all that you have. I think I can safely speak for everyone here that we are glad one "of our own" is out there telling us all he can! |

I really hope the price doesn't jump above ~$25000, or I'll have zero chance of being able to afford one. I'll end up getting myself a used S2000 or something.
