Shift Knob

I just bought my 2013 FR-S, and I love the shift knob. Not sure why? Size? Weight?

The problem is the sticker on top is coming off (Yes, I haven't checked but I'm sure I could glue it)

In a way, it'd be nice to have a different one, but I thought it was as easy as finding a cool look and going with it. Now there's grams, and ungodly price differences?

You get what you pay for?

I like the weight of the stock, hesitant about going with all metal, and kind of partial to keeping it looking like it belongs.

Not much to go on, but anyone have one that reminds them of this, or basically any knowledge on the subject?

hmmmm.........I'd suggest you just glue the top back on and keep the OEM knob.

OR ....... you could start a collection and wonder why you have so many sitting on your garage shelf ......

You can probably find someone willing to sell you their stock one.

I personally prefer shifting with a heavier shift knob (think 500 grams plus) - find that it makes the shifting less notchy and smoother. You may notice the notchiness with time as you put more miles on the car.

If you like the stock knob, but are looking for something better that retains the stock look, then get the TRD knob

Thanks guys. I heard you say 500+ grams; what is the stock one ballpark?

Also, TRD sounds nice, I'll go look it up.

In general though, the $150-200+ ones, are they just ridiculously overpriced or do they have that much money in value others do not?

On this car all my experience comes from the stock knob (which isn't bad at all) and Raceseng shift knobs. To me my black engraved Slammer was worth every penny of the $150 I spent on it (possibly more). It shifts beautifully, smooth, positive, and look like a zillion bucks.

I'd say stock is somewhere around 250 grams or so

It depends if they're weighted or not, even though 150 is a lot. I bought my slammer for 125 with engravings (635 grams). It's worth it.

Too bad the metal ones don't come in Stock colors. I'd pay more for that!

Doh! TRD themselves don't even have the shift knob! If I go that route, any reputable suppliers? I assume dealer can get it, but hoping a bit cheaper.

@Pekingduck is selling a new TRD shift knob in the SoCal trade thread.

Oh Jeez, do I love it!

I had a BMW 335i before with slight power mods. Stock it's 300 HP or so.

That car was fast and fun, but I think the weight makes it feel slower. Without a doubt, the FR-S is slower on paper, but it feels so quick and nimble!

I have about $1.08 for mods, but I've got about 15k (possible exaggeration) worth of things I want to do to it!

I think I'll do a few cosmetics, a couple other little things, and spend money on high performance driving school. I think I'll get more out of that than mods to begin with!

Thanks for asking!

You can get a new bottom and top anodized from Barrata but it is stupid expensive.
