Depends. For CARB kits no. For tracking CARB kits or more powerful, or if it is routinely 100 degree days then an oil cooler is a good idea. I don't track my car. I have spirited driving in the canyons. I have the Forester XT oil regulator and E85 on a 85mm pulley. My oil temps are never an issue.

For higher pulleys, or even on the stock pulley with E85, then a clutch upgrade is probably needed. Fork upgrade would be a good idea for a basic clutch upgrade like Exedy's Stage 1. It would be needed for a strong clutch upgrade.

My car has done about 63,000kms / 40,000miles.. clutch feels fine. Is the stock clutch setup not up to the task?
I’ve had my car booked in with Harrop in Melbourne for the install since Feb, but then got the recall notice and had the springs done in March. Due to unforeseen circumstances, and wanting to do at least 3k kms to make sure the recall was ok, I was going to finally have the install done this week when the thrust bearing, which was fine pre recall, deteriorated and now needs replacing before it actually collapses.

Since I have to have the box out anyway I’ve decided to upgrade the clutch, thrust bearing, etc at considerable and unexpected cost. $1300.

Having said that I have actually visited Harrop HQ here in Melbourne and have spoken to an installer tech who has had a SC installed on his 2012 86 since inception and was personally assured that even when running the smaller pulley, which he is, a healthy OEM clutch is more than capable of handling the extra power output. The linear power delivery of the Harrop is a lot easier on the drive train than other FI.

In summarising; if I was you and if your clutch is fine now, just replace your thrust bearing, and probably spigot bearing, while your dealer has the box out as a precautionary measure.

Owner.

Thank you Mike@Xero-Limit. I couldn't have done it without you!

I bought the Harrop SC and oil cooler, with Mike's tune package back in March '19. Finally got some time to install it a few weeks ago.

Mike handled the order/import paperwork, and it shipped directly to my garage via UPS...where it sat... After reading the manuals, this forum, and watching lots of videos of people under the hood, I installed it without any issues. Then it was time to flash the ECU Mike was great at answering my novice questions, and very patient when dealing with my schoolboy errors.

The supercharger (95mm pulley), oil cooler, and PS4s tires are the only performance upgrades. I use 93octane. Love it!

Nice. Those are progress pics. Is it all together? If so, how do you like the power? Any plans for E85?

= rubber has been laid. E85 is not readily available to me (although 93octane is not common at the pumps here either...) The power increase is noticeable and pleasant. I was satisfied with the stock setup with one exception...on trackday long pulls uphill were painful. Giving point-byes may get you a blurred friendly wave, but I'm betting that pulling away is going to be more fun. That being said, upgrades are on hold until my driving skills catch up. Driving around town with stoplights and traffic is pretty much like stock. Easy on the throttle and frequent gear changes = comfort. Driving around town WITHOUT stoplights and traffic is a different story. Stay in gear/on throttle (1st or 2nd) then skip to 5th and hold at the speed limit. The more linear power curve with the extra boost makes pounding thru all of the gears at low RPM seem unnecessary. From stock to SC is a nice giant step forward, with plenty of room for future leaps.

So I have not taken it on track yet, but I did run in an autocross recently. I cannot claim that it improved my times, but it seemed easier to maintain better throttle control/power application.

also Irace86.2.0, Thanks for your informational Build Journal. I did notice more powerful (than stock) jerking with certain throttle applications (as you mentioned in your thread) plus a few other common experiences.

Take it easy on the car when it's cold out. That oil cooler doesn't have a thermostatic flow limiter so it will, quite easily, over cool the oil on the street. Harrop built that oil cooler to be used primarily on track.

Maybe this has been answered; I don’t remember. Any talk about whether this will be a free tune like Edelbrock, or about how someone goes about getting a CARB EO plaque/sticker from Harrop who has a pre-CARB kit or used kit?

A week late but, @HarropOz 's 2019 WTAC setup is looking stellar. 450WHP @22psi with the HKS 2.1L Stroker kit. A super clean, new dry sump setup too.

Do you mean the secondary belts? It is hard to tell what they are doing from pics, but it looks like they are running dual belts, so if the supercharger belt breaks then the car can run back to the pits. The second belt also appears to be an eight rib belt instead of the six rib belt, so that can help during extreme swings in rpms and with lots of power, so it doesn’t break. They may also be running an increased crank pulley coupled with their smallest supercharger pulley, so they can get more boost. Lastly, they may be running a larger throttle body, so that setup may help with clearance.
