new JDL turbo kit price?

So i saw in the global facebook group that JDL will be offering their turbo kit for 2999$ which at this point is a direct competitor to the SBD kit. Few questions.

Is that price point true?
Whats the power output like?
How reliable is this kit?

I can say the quality is great which their known for their craftsmanship. I have a kit not installed yet. Yes the price is true for a base kit, as far as I know at least initially. Power output of course depends on which Precision or Garrett turbo you get. But its competitive with any other kit not something to worry about.

My negative experiences:
-I had to have the intercooler tig welded at the part that has the BOV flange.
-The piping that connects the passenger side intercooler to the charge piping, in my case, should have been an inch or so longer. I fucked with it for quite a long time trying to get the best fitment possible and the couplers don't have much to grasp onto and it developed a boost leak there after awhile.
-Downpipe slightly touches cam angle sensor
-Long waiting period

Good experiences:
-Outside of what I listed above, everything else fit well
-Beautifully crafted, very high quality components. I have no doubts everything will hold the test of time...and it's easy on the eyes.
-I have the base kit and even despite only having a journal bearing, it is super responsive due to the short and straight charge piping. A lot of folks down talk the 4854 when they look at it on paper...but I feel they made a good choice with it. It's appropriately sized for this motor and it makes good power. It is very similar in blade size to a gt2860. If I could go back in time I would have spent the cash for a gtx2863r or something but she pulls strong so I don't have a lot of regret.

What makes them different than most kit suppliers:
-Very customizable, lots of options. They will source pretty much any turbo for you...which to answer your power output question you can make as much power as you want if you have the cash to foot the bill. You can get a version that does not require you cutting your front crash beam with a layout like FBM. Optional intake that sits in the bumper replacing windshield reservoir. V band or 4 bolt, open dump or recirc. The list goes on.
-Made in the USA...you are supporting hard working guys that have contributed quite a bit to this community. All of my dealings with them have been pleasant.

This new base kit seriously has my interest. Always been a fan of JDL's work and this new kit bumps it into SBD price range. Also +1 for made in the USA.

I have heard though that performance wise it still doesnt really match up to the SBD kit and that to get the same kind of performance you are looking at still spending around 5k to do so. But again...just hearsay. Trying to find out for myself as i'm going to be switching form my Edelbrock to a Turbo once the Edelbrock warranty is up and i'm currently leaning towards the SBD 400x.

For me, the marginal performance difference doesn't bother me much. However, it could be a factor for others, especially when purchasing a modification that is 3k+. I'm just excited about the UEL header being an option. Yes, not quite as efficient, but the teenager in me loves the sound. I would pick the Edelbrock kit over any other option though if money wasn't an issue.

TBH, from pictures the intercooler looks a little small compared to others I see on other turbo kits. Anyone else get that impression?

Dont get me wrong i love the Edelbrock. Makes great power, i can run any type of header i want and the build quality is superb. it also has a ton of low end usable torque which is great.

In the end though i do prefer turbo's and how they drive but since my car is new and a 2016 i wanted to go FI with something that had a warranty hence the Edelbrock.

Nope my IATs are perfectly fine. You're not going to be running much boost in this car anyways, having a huge intercooler is only going to cause more pressure drop and hurt transient response. The piping layout and properly sized intercooler core is one of the strong suites of this kit.

Are you running the 2999$ kit from JDL? How do you like it? What's the power you are pushing?
