I bought the first 07 that my dealership got in back in March of 2006 and had no issues with mine. I had it for 3.5 years and 37k miles. I haven't followed the FJ scene since November of 2009 though. I work at a Toyota dealer and have not heard of this either.

So far, so good for me though! Over 125k miles on my '07 and no rips!
Ha! Likewise, 07' FJC with 125k miles. Zero issues. Looking to get a FRS to compliment it.

Nice...the one and only problem we've had was one of the belt tensioner pulleys shit the bed on a trip to western NY. Lucked out and found a Toyota dealership in the middle of f'ing nowhere, pulled into the lot with the ball bearings literally falling out of the bearing assembly, and then lucked out and they had the part in stock. That was my bad as it was making noise prior to, but I put off fixing it.

Chances are this motor failed due to a reassembly problem when they first took the engine apart. Which is why SOA pulled the TSB offline in the first place, #1: because the issue is not mechanical, and #2: because the chance of a timing issue after the engine is dissassembled.

I wouldn't mind a blown engine to get some free payments and longer warranty

It showed my car had 28,000 miles and never was taken into service.
Which is a great lesson on why you never believe a Carfax.

Engine was completely replaced and my car has been running great over the past few days. Subaru and I came to an agreement that I'm happy with and that's all I'm going say about that

Yes, longest break in period ever

Just happy to have her back at this point. The rentals made me appreciate how good these cars are.

Brief Summary: I had the dreaded CEL/idle issue (code P0017) . Brought it in for repair, they replaced the cam sprocket, then reflashed, then put back in the original (cause the ecu didn't take the new ones), then reflashed again. Light went away and they gave me the car back after 30 miles of testing. After 40 miles of driving, heard a loud clanking sound, loss of power, stalling, had to pull over and get it towed because it was undriveable.

Got the call today that there were metal shards in my oil pan and that Subaru Corporate had approved a complete new engine to be installed on Monday. They have mentioned compensation but nothing yet (waiting on the call from my rep).

I still believe I need a new car. My car was less than 3 weeks old and had 850 miles on it when the first symptoms occured. Now I'm going to have paid $30k for a car that's had the engine ripped out of it. If i go to sell it, it will be worth much less because the new engine will show up on the carfax. I know I personally would walk away from a vehicle on a second engine and wait for one that hasn't had major work done.
Any chance you had a Perrin Crank Pulley? This is starting to be a common occurrence most of them this has happened to have had this mod just trying to see if it is the mod or the car.
