I'd say it's more than likely caused by your diet as a whole and the coffee is just setting things off. Lower the average acid content of everything you're eating and watch your stomach problems disappear.

Quirky Questions: Why does coffee make me poop?
Quote:
Researchers believe that the bowel-stimulating quality of coffee comes from caffeine and/or other substances contained within the coffee brew. Although there have been no large-scale studies on this subject, what we do know is that drinking coffee can stimulate movement of the colonic muscles, thus promoting peristalsis (the coordinated contraction and relaxation of intestinal muscles that causes bowel movements). One study noted that the magnitude of this peristaltic effect of caffeinated coffee is similar to one induced by eating a meal. It’s also 60 percent stronger than the effect induced by drinking water, and 23 percent stronger than the effect due to drinking decaffeinated coffee.
Aside from promoting bowel movements, coffee can also cause looser stools because increased peristalsis leaves less time for the colon to perform one of its key functions–reabsorbing water from fecal matter to produce well-formed stools. Be aware, however, that other common accompaniments to coffee can be culprits in this matter. Dairy products, excess sugar, even “sugarless” sweeteners like sorbitol (a well-known substance used as a laxative) can cause diarrhea.

Switch to proper indian chai, none of that starbucks BS. Chai is actually all natural and can be found at your local indian/asian grocer. Tastes great, has a good amount of caffeine

I'm gonna suggest you lay off the coffee and caffeine for a few weeks. It could be that your bowels are slightly inflamed, or irritated and they simply need a few weeks of rest.

Also make sure you are washing your hands before you brew the coffee, and are drinking from a clean cup. You probably should wash the K-cups before you use them too, and clean the machine.

I have this issue as well. I never will drink coffee on an empty stomach because that always seems to trigger it. Also, a dark roast coffee will be less acidic than a medium to light roast coffee. Try something from the Asian/Pacific growing regions as they typically have low acidity and great spiced, earthy flavors. Most of your Latin American coffees will be acidic. If you want to get more in depth, try and avoid washed processed coffees because they will have been fermented giving them a bright acidity.

Clean cup. Use a "community" Keurig machine at work. Water is tap but run through a Brita filter piture that is changed regularly. Seems more related to how much I drink. I don't drink as much at home and I don't feel as bad...

Not if he wants to stay awake and not have an amazing caffeine withdrawal. No tea has as much caffeine as coffee. Sure, its easier on the system, but he'd have to drink about 3x as much liquids to get the same amount. I'm all for a liquid flush, but that's ridiculous.

Haha, when I was on vacation last year someone brewed coffee and chai one morning and I poured a cup and took a sip.. and promptly was like wtf is this horrible blend? Ugh, I did not like it one bit. But then again, it wasn't what I was expecting, so if I went in expecting a different flavor I might've had a better reaction.

This is interesting stuff; I think I should be watching the types of coffees I drink too, as my stomach seems to hate me after certain cups or amounts of coffee. Oddly enough, the free coffee at work with tap water and god knows how often it is(not) cleaned, seems to affect me much less negatively than when I make good coffee at home. Just tastes like garbage, comparatively. I usually try to have a banana in the morning for the potassium. I'll try to remember to eat it before the coffee next time.
