Can't wait for round 2 of D1GP. It's gonna be at Suzuka, so it'll be great!

IS-F's V8 & American V8 is totally different. Specially, Orido's V8 isn't 100%. In practice runs, engine went out again & had to pull the engine out again. I'm amazed that he even made it into Semifinal.

I don't know that it has anything to do with the car as much as the aggressiveness of the drivers. If the Long Beach event was any indication, Pro Drifters, regardless of car, are always driving on the edge and run a 50/50 chance of scraping a wall regardless.

Like I said earlier in this thread, its good to have sponsors, because you can drive like that. Maybe 5% of the folks that pay their own money for this (or any) car are going to drive it that much at risk. I would think if it were a $15K car it would be more likely frankly.

Orido is paying out of his pocket.

Yeah, wheels, tires & several other parts are sponsored, but every crash he makes, he's fixing out of his pocket

Crashes happen in D1 in every single race and practice. Been to enough of them as a photographer (covered an entire season once) to witness that. It's not really a matter of driver skill, it's the fact that they need to get as close to the wall as possible to look good for the camera's/audience, combined with the nature of the event.

On Friday after the crash, Ross had to literally take a crossmember back to the AVO shop in Akishima, fix it and weld it back up, and get it back so that they could run on Saturday. Crazy stuff.

Honestly, the Droo-P driver is having to adjust to something he's not had on the AE86 - power. Lots and lots of it. When they asked for us to make 600whp, they probably were thinking they'd get 600whp that only appears on a dyno for one run, not the real thing. Once it was going, we had a hard time convincing the driver to go past 50% throttle during his initial practice runs (true story).

Going to be an interesting season!

Paul Hansen

not surprised really, these are new cars that the crews have often been working on till the last minute. it takes time to adjust to the behavior of a new car/chassis. familiarity breeds confidence.

No, I get that, its true with a lot of race teams. I guess I should have said its different when your livelihood depends on the aggressiveness of your driving. It's all part of making a living in a sport. You got to be willing to take risks, with your equipment and yourself.
