Good to hear. Glad I didn't run that tune for long. Still feal like I waisted $300.

I might have to try another tune.

I like that Bill is supposed to have a tip in knock fix with a custom table added to the tune I believe. Also I've heard he did the base map for the Jackson racing supercharger and @csgmike seems happy with the set up and hasn't killed another motor while tracking it that I know of.

So that's what that noise is... (tip-in knock) - does it also happen normally when you go from babying the gas to being a bit more aggressive very quickly? I always thought it was a mechanically-induced noise from rapidly changing load...

Yeah, I find that I have the same noise when I'm cruising along at 2-2.5K rpm in 3rd and 4th and applying rapid and significant throttle (probably not the smartest thing to do) and the high load makes that 2nd noise in the video immediately after throttle is applied.

In the video, Is the tip in knock the sound that almost sounds like the accelerator being jumped on, like a click? Ie, it's the very clear mechanical sound that is just for a fraction of a second, rather than the 2nd lot of VVT sound?

So, VVT sound, tip in, more VVT sound?

That's what I think the video clip is trying to say - which worries me a bit because as I described above, I definitely hear it when I add quite a bit of throttle rapidly when cruising around 2K RPM on 3rd / 4th. As you, I thought it was just a normal mechanically-induced sound from high load on all the moving parts.

I asked @jamesm and was nice enough to confirm (or perhaps I misunderstood) that the 2nd noise that comes on in the above video above immediately when throttle is added is indeed tip-in knock.

you'll know knock when you hear it. i've never been able to hear tip-in knock just driving around though (even with det cans). i presume that video was taken from under the hood. i can't really hear much in the video aside from induction noise tbh, but i'm sick so my heads all stuffed up lol.

Get better soon! Yeah from the clip, seems like right under the hood.

Yeah. I can hear knock pretty clearly, but that sound is not what I usually associate with knock. That's why I was confused.

Have we determined what noise is problematic and what's not, or is it down to a need to log and see what it looks like?

I've not logged anything as I'm totally new to electronic tuning and also don't have access to a PC to hook my OFT up to yet.

What do I need to record to determine if I have a problem or not?

I definitely get a lot of raspy or metallic noise between 4-5K and it seems mostly if I'm WOT. Maybe it is still there if gently accelerating, but not as noticeable. The noise is sort of scaring me right now, wondering if I better go back to stock before I break something.

I have been following this thread closely because I had plans to order the OFT. Now that I received and installed the stage 1 tune (my car meets the stage 1 requirements), I was able to experience the issue the OP describes. I called Vishnu Performance to listen to their thoughts regarding the odd sounding noise after installing their tune, but the person I spoke to was not aware if the issue. Since many cars have been running this tune for a long time without any consequences, I decided to keep running the tune. After 200 miles on the tune I noticed that the noise has subsided significantly. I don't have the time to test the hypothesis that the noise is subsided after allowing the ECU to learn, but perhaps this will help somebody else.

I'm on Stg 1 as well, car is mechanically stock. I've had the current file installed for awhile (don't know how long but I can figure out from my purchase date) and I'm sure it's longer than a couple hundred miles. I do 350 miles a week if I drive in every day. I probably have several thousand since I went to Stg 1.

I've left it on there because I haven't heard anyone say for sure that this is bad, but the noise is sort of scary as it is definitely somewhere between exhaust rasp/metallic.
