Thumbs up pmccut's GBS boost build

Just picked up my GBS BRZ 6MT limited yesterday in Portland, OR. I've been busy ordering parts. Ordered the FBM stage 1 turbo kit 3 months ago, took 7 weeks to arrive. Exhaust, coilovers, wheels/tires should be done this week!

Mods (installed + planned):

Suspension:
Stance coilovers (installed 5/11/13)

Wheels/tires:
Rays Gram Lights 57xtreme (installed 5/16/13)
Michelin Pilot Super Sport
Front: 18x8.5 on 225/40
Rear: 18x9.5 on 255/35

Engine/Driveline:
FBM base turbo kit
Perrin resonated exhaust (installed 5/11/13)
Perrin engine mounts
Perrin rear shifter bushing
Perrin transmission support mount
Cusco catch can
FBM aluminum radiator

Audio:
Definitely..

Exterior:
Grimmspeed front license plate mount
Grimmspeed master cylinder brace

Picking up car (5/11/13)

Drive home (~670mi)

First mod to install - Perrin resonated cat-back! (5/12/13)

Installed the stance coilovers right after.

FBM stage 1 turbo kit has been sitting in my closet for a couple weeks Will be installed once I'm able to smog and register the car in California.

Turbo installed as of 5:15AM today!

The guys at WORKS motorsports spent the night finishing up the car. Bumper was bolted up right around 5AM, tuned and gone by 5:15AM. Long night...

Taking shape.

View of the dump tube...should've gone recirc.

Finishing up..

Data logging with AEM failsafe boost/afr gauge. I've seen it go pretty rich, 10 flat for a brief moment. Usually 12-15.

I forgot to take pictures of the gauge mount - it looks CLEAN. The ATI vent pod fits nicely with the AEM failsafe gauge. It made it really easy to plug in and change the digital+outer light display and log.

First impressions:
FUN. Not as fast as I was expecting from the reviews I've seen, but I'm happy. I was expecting it to feel faster on the butt dyno than my WRX, and it just doesn't. Probably just the massive torque difference.
The car is damn loud under boost. Seriously, it's pretty obnoxious. Lots of supporting mods left to install.

For those with FBM - is everyone going with Vistoni for tuning? I'd like to get the AFRs a bit more in spec.

Cool to see fellow cali owners going turbo. You have a cool smog shop or planning on just swapping it?

Since I bought it in Oregon I have to smog it before I can register it here, but afaik I'd only have to smog it once it's five years old...which gives me time to find a lenient smog shop...or maybe we'll vote to simplify smog to just the sniffer? I can dream..

I thought about it for a few minutes at most. I'm really not equipped to do it on jackstands in a shared garage. I'm planning on having Works Motorsports do the install. I talked to the owner (Pete?) 2-3 months ago when I ordered the FBM kit and he quoted me two days with a before and after dyno run. I'm still deciding on which clutch/flywheel, catch can, and gauges to go with.

Nice surprise on Monday..

And after much headache with the seller using the wrong address (twice) I was finally able to pick these up 3 hours ago!

Will post pics of them mounted in a few hours.

A bit wider..

Still need to lower the rear another inch.

I didn't think the tires would look as stretched as they do. The rear is about -1.5 camber and won't be adjustable unless I go with LCAs. I guess the only good thing is no rubbing on 255 PSS. Super jealous of Jive Turkey's 265s

Rays center caps backordered, gotta find someone who has them in stock.

Back to the good news: I spoke with Pete @ Works Motorsports today and scheduled the turbo install for May 29th. I need to order the perrin engine mounts, catch can, and aem failsafe gauge. :happy0180:

I was looking over the turbo kit boxes and I realized they didn't include the Ecutek cable I paid for. I contacted @FullBlown and they informed me they're backordered. Waiting to hear back from the shop to see if they have a cable to use in the interim.

Rays center caps will be here today, grimmspeed master cylinder brace + front license plate mount tomorrow. Perrin engine mounts, cusco catch can, aem failsafe gauge, perrin transmission mount, and perrin rear shifter bushing next week.
Andddd just ordered the FBM radiator they listed in stock today. This is getting expensive!

turbo install

Dropped the car off @ WORKS motorsports today, shooting for it being ready late Friday. I'm holding off on some supporting mods just due to the high quote I got: Perrin rear shifter bushing, transmission mount, cusco catch can, aem failsafe gauge. I'll do the catch can and gauge this weekend..I hope.

Get it McCutty. Also, you should post pics of the snail and the manifold if you took any. I never did see it when I was over at your place.
