Been debating between the GC 2.0T R-Spec and the FR-S for a little while now. If it were lighter, then I honestly may be more inclined to get the Hyundai. Sure you can gut it, but I'm tired of driving around gutted cars. Hah. I want to keep *some* comfort. Even so, I'm wondering if losing some of that body weight would calm the handling woes - no boats for me, please.

I test-drive quite a bit of manual cars and usually have no problem taking off smoothly, with GC I couldn't. Exhaust tone annoyed me, steering response was quick but the car felt more 'boat-like' then Mustang GT w/o sport suspension. On top of that there was vibration in the steering wheel on the hwy. But what most surprised me - power felt weird. Either the car was filled with regular gas or there was quite a bit of turbo-lag. Turbo in my spec.b spools faster @3k rpm and pulls about the same in the mid-range. I was kind and didn't rev it above 5k, maybe it's more lively there.
Brakes felt nice. Shifter is unremarkable, did not annoy me, but didn't feel better than Subaru's 6mt short-throw one. So if BRZ purchase somehow falls through, it's not gonna be 2.0t GC for me. I'll try the '13 3.8 Track when I get a chance.
They must have ruined the suspension since people bitched and complain that the 2010-2012 models with the Track suspension was too harsh. Good thing I only like the 2010-2012 models.

Is the Boxer engine of the Scion FRS as smooth as advertised being dynamically balance with the Horizontally opposed cyclinders?

The GC is an inline 4 and being a high output engine most likely has balance shafts. Which would explain the shakes and rattles in the dash.

i think that they only update the interior little one and there is no more change in the design anyhow that the blue one is the awesome.

I test drove the auto 2013 GenCoupe 2.0T Premium today while my dad test drove the 2.0T R-Spec manual. He hasn't driven manual in almost 10 years, but was able to drive the GTI fairly smoothly about 2 months ago. But he stalled multiple times trying to get the Genesis going. Maybe it's just the new clutch + him being rusty, but I do recall reading that the car's clutch doesn't engage all that well.

Anyhow, when I drove the auto 2.0T, it just wasn't impressive in the ways I want a sports car to feel. It's quick, sure, but there's so little feedback from car to driver. I just mashed the pedal and hit 80mph in no time, but didn't realize how fast I was going until I looked at the speedo. It just wasn't an engaging drive. It really felt like I was driving a fat boat. Also, there was a bit of rev lag after I lifted my foot off the throttle. Not sure if that's normal or not. In any case, I didn't feel like the GC was a driver's car. It's just too big and heavy, and the weird front end styling and terrible rear seat head room didn't help. I didn't test the 3.8, but I don't think it's going to be much better. I was able to get a great offer on the 2.0T R-Spec, just under $24k before TTL, but I'm probably going to end up getting a 2011 Audi A3 2.0T with Premium Plus and S-Line sport package. It obviously doesn't have the power of the GC, but it's more practical, smaller and lighter, and probably more fun to drive. And it looks amazing. It's FWD, but I'm okay with that for now. I will probably get a BRZ STI in a few years if the price is right.

The GC has way too many things going on in the front. The BRZ is just too clean and nice. Thanks for the side by side.

I'm probably the only person on here that has driven both so here goes:

The 2013 FRS and the 2013 GC Premium 2.0T share a similar price point and 0 to 60 time but everything else is completely different. The GC has a far nicer interior: leather, heated seats, sunroof, more amenities, and more space. That being said it has worse steering feel, clunky transmission, too much body roll, good suspension and it feels like a boat. The FRS felt absolutely fantastic, with amazingly low stance, perfect transmission, ideal clutch and pedal placement, and sublime steering feel.

The car for me, a driver, that is focused on feel and fun would pick the FRS over the GC every time but I can see a lot of strengths in the GC. It's a compelling car and if I was looking for more of a Grand Tourer it would be my first choice in this price bracket.

sounds like an honest review.

Ive also driven both and have to say the hyundai is hardly a sportscar. Hyundai would like you to think otherwise. Every single thing about that car is just average. Not one single thing about it left any sort of impression on me. Other than how awkward it looks and how the exhaust sounded like it was going to fall off. The clutch was garbage too. Sorry, my truth. :p

The FRS left an impression of incredible neutrality, dialed in driving inputs and overall driver involvement. Negatives: definetly needs more power combined with a taller 6th.
