Do you think I can demand for a extended warranty? LOL

It's free to ask. If it were me, I'd be interviewing the engineer regarding root cause, quality issues, harmonics...

@BeeAreZee

You can't receive private message so I am posting my response here.

I started hearing the knocking maybe...at 11,000 miles. Didn't think much of it, I thought it was normal.

I was in Park and I only heard it when it was warm, it was sometimes as well. I didn't hear it while driving.

HOWEVER -- the dealer caught it when it was cold and they caught TWO odd noises. They heard more than me which led to an engine tear down. The second noise is a noise I'm not familiar with or didn't catch so I can't tell you what to listen for.

Currently I'm getting my head/engine rebuilt and my valves adjusted.

Feel free to ask any other questions.

I just got the car back. Car runs slightly better. Brake pedal feels stiffer than usual.

As stated, new valves, rocker arms, and lifters. All 8.

Glad to hear she's fixed! It's hard to quantify what "slightly better" is exactly.. Do you datalog?

I'm going off by sound. So previously before this my car kinda sounded like it would break up around 4-5k... now it doesn't anymore. Throttle response is the same along.. mainly sound is more consistent.

Mine has 21k miles. I noticed a sound around 12k, didn't think anything of it. Went to go get something to eat yesterday was listening and just didn't sound right. So decided I would read around to see what other people thought and came to this. Well thanks to you my car has a Date at Subaru Friday morning.

They would have unhooked your battery as well so the ECU will have to relearn. It should get even better after a couple 100 miles.

Im hesitant on that because my radio settings are saved.

Unless our headunit stores it now Without power.

I'm with Tcoat. They pulled your engine. No way to do that without disconnecting everything.

Maybe they unplugged the harness but left the battery wired up? I'm pretty stumped. My trip A and B weren't cleared and neither was my radio settings.

Puzzling, agreed. I wonder if they don't have some sort of special doohicky to keep the chassis juiced up. Plug a 12 V pwr supply into the accessory outlet? Oh, well. The question's academic. Only thing that matters is you're back in business.
