This post, and really everything that's happening with the OpenFlash tablet, is really what I had in mind when I first started working on RomRaider ... what, 8 years ago? Very good information and great to see it coming from a old school Subaru tuner.

I'm not sure if this is the place to ask, but what other kinds of maps can we expect? I've heard e85, what about fuel economy maps or FI?

From the FAQ page:

Will the OpenFlash Tablet work on a BRZ/FR-S with an Ecutek tune?

At this time, no. The Ecutek tune locks the ECU from being read. We are working on a solution for this issue. We should have it soon.

So does this means if you have ever used Ecutek you can not use this at all right now or does it mean if you flash back to stock with Ecutek you can use this now?

Pretty sure your ecu will still be locked if you've used Ecutek. I would trade it to some sucker for a stock ECU.

I am pretty sure you can flash back to stock with Ecutek and then flash with whatever you want from that point foward. I know of a few people that have made the Ecutek -> BrzEdit switch this far. What you can not do is read a currently flashed Ecutek tune before going back to stock.

Ecutek! Lol. Not only do you give them money to make you something you don't own, but they also take your ecu from you!? What the shit!? That's terrible.

OpenFlash looks very promising and a fantastic price too! I'd like to see more developement and more user experience with it first though. Having Vishnu develope maps and help work on actual end-user use really says greatness about this product. I anxious for somebody to push this tuning system to its full potential.

and with that the reign of ecutek ends... and the age of open, collaborative tuning begins.

i wouldn't be so sure about that. many, many gt-r owners were mad when they found out that ecutek's encryption or whatever irreversibly altered their ecu and caused a bunch of people with 'wiped back to stock' ecus to be denied warranty repairs. it may need more than a simple flashing of the stock map.

People are still going to use ecutek. Hopefully much much less, but they'll still do it.

FWIW, we will be working with a couple local ecutek customers to see what is possible/necessary for getting back to a truly stock ecu ROM.

Thanks for all the support gentlemen! I'll try to answer all the questions when I get to a computer later today

oh they will... but just like every other platform ecutek will slowly fade into irrelevance. it's a pattern, a cycle they go through.

you know how in business they say 'be the first, be the best, or be different'... well, they seem to focus mainly on #1, and when someone eventually comes and focuses on #2, they just move on to the next platform.
