You just have to look hard enough.

Looks better than the current generation I see at least half a dozen every single day. However, it looks dwindled down to just a normal impreza more than ever. I'm starting to realize it's harder for me to realize a WRX nowadays unless there are the badges up close. Hell, if this was on the street and it didn't have WRX badges I would assume it's just a regular impreza.

Love how marketing materials sell it as an offroad/road racing capable. But you better pray if your unmolested engine DI seals fail, we might fix it under warranty ... or not

I'm interested in the new STI as a second car but will not buy the first MY due to reliability concerns.

I'll be very curious to see how it does in that regard, since it's using a very different DI setup compared to the BRZ (much more like the Forester XT, actually). I'm reserving judgment until it's been out for a while, for sure, but I wouldn't necessarily assume it will have the same issues as the BRZ.

I just did a quick and dirty pchop overlay of BRZ profile over the 2014 WRX profile/drivetrain profile. It fits nicley into the BRZ profile. On another intersting note, the new WRX and BRZ have very similar profiles when seen as an overlay. If I can clean up my image I will post it later. I used these photos to do it.

I have been following all the Subaru new releases and concepts the past few months. I have been quietly cheering on Subaru. They are making huge leaps and bounds in the tech/engineering of their products recently. I read the same old crying and bitching about looks that I've always heard about Subaru. What most seem to miss is all the advances of tech/engineering subaru is fast tracking into thier products. I'm excited that the Ej motor is going away, six speed in the WRX, DI tech across multiple platforms finally, drivetrain forward design is being implemented, BRZ style electric steering for other models, etc. I think when the 2014 WRX test drive articles/vids start coming out, it is going to be a very similar reaction that the FRS/BRZ received. Subaru learned a lot from the whole FRS/BRZ project. (Even if they were dragged into it kicking and screaming.) It is evident in many of the new models that debuted this week. It will become clearer as people get there hands on some of these cars.

Subaru Concepts are almost never to be trusted for legitimate production value. The only concept that is an exception is the Levorg. It is pretty much production ready. Not sure why it is presented as a concept by the media/marketing. I hope they bring the Levorg to the states, plus a manual trans. My wife's 07 WRX wagon will need a replacement by then.

The final car basically is the concept's styling cues shrunk down to Impreza proportions. I don't know why anyone expected anything else. Just like that Legacy concept, the production car will fit roughly into the current car's proportions with styling based of the concept. The are bits I don't care for, but as a whole, I like the new car. I like it enough it may find a place in my driveway. With a daughter on the way, a four door that's still fun to drive makes a lot of sense.(would make the wife happy too)

As for the engine, This won't be the first year for the FA20DIT, with it already seeing use in the Forester XT and Legacy GT.
