Just read this in the Melbourne Sun
Saw the below story in today's 30/1015 Melbourne Sun.
"With the 86 being on sale for over three years now, Tada-san said it’s due for a fairly heavy midlife update soon. This includes its exterior look, interior and finally an update to its 2.0-litre naturally aspirated boxer engine. But if you were hoping for a standard turbocharger, it’s still looking unlikely with Tada-san saying it would be “too easy”. And this; "Interestingly though, he was very interested in the idea of fitting an electric turbocharger to the car." Full story here; http://at.heraldsun.com.au/link/d40a...raldsun.com.au |

There was already shots of an 86 with a different front and back (or rather, 'camouflaged' front and back) being tested earlier:
http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...fr-s-spy-shots Considering I only bought the car this year I dont mind if its not due for a little while longer xD (not that Im not happy with it, but if they fix the sagging issues with the new one then thats pretty good) |

That's it? Seriously? An extra 10hp? A bigger front opening? No new model variants due to low sales. Bigger exhaust tips, which look like the ones that come standard with the AU model. Don't they realise that if they added a convertible and a few brighter colours, like the Japan released yellow 86, some decent accessory packs focusing on wheels, brakes and shocks people might start buying them. I'd trade up and buy a hard top convertible in a heart beat.

"STI's general manager of sales, Ken Hori, added that a regular turbo would compromise the car's crash performance."

um we know there will be a refresh soon. Even if you choose to believe none of the rumors or actual pictures, it is about time in the product cycle.

So if the BRZ gets an electric "trubo", could it be also installed into the 86, or would there be too much mucking around (despite the fact that Hirakawa said there was little plumbing to do with an electric one)?

This wouldn't surprise me. In the last few weeks I have ripped out most of the interior including boot & doors & I can see the car is fairly much slapdash/flimsy in construction. I guess you get what you pay for. Last edited by ZZT86; 01-05-2016 at 08:22 PM. Reason: typo |
