Went to the dealer this morning here in northeastern IL, said the same thing. The Foresters have the same mounts, and they are bad. Subi has replacement parts, and of course they weren't in stock at the dealer. It will get fixed next weekend.

I realized this was obviously a design flaw, so I called Subaru National Customer Support, and they have opened a case on it. I'd expect everyone will eventually have their mirrors fixed when they go in for oil changes or whatever.

Slides down towards the dash. There's a strong steel spring "hairpin" style clip in there. Possibly a little silicone spray might get it moving.

The bracket is designed to twist out if you hit the mirror hard enough with your head. I recommend against experimenting with that removal method, might break the windshield as well!

FYI, I just got back from the dealer and they fixed my loose/rattling homelink rearview mirror. The service advisor said that they had replaced the mounting thing w/ a new one. Let me tell you, now it's on SOLID! There is absolutely no slop or play in the mirror or the mounting bracket. I highly recommend that you visit your dealership to have this done if you have not done so. Also, you will not need to mod anything. I'm 110% satisfied w/ the fix. :happy0180:

You need a whole new part. Maybe you can just source it yourself and make the repairs.

Had mine repaired 2 weeks ago...so far so good. But honestly, I'm expecting it come free again. The tech didn't say anything to me about a recall or new part to fix. In fact I saw him grab a new boxed homelink mirror kit out of the accessories department and head back to the service area to reinstall my mirror. Overall the design is not good for a car that is designed to ride this firm.

My service advisor actually told me that the old mount was a bad design and that they had a brand new mount for it. I'd call and check as both of us could be wrong, but I'll just say this. My new mount seems like it's super glued onto the windshield. I mean it's down right solid. Absolutely zero free play or slop anywhere to be found.

Very interesting. Mine mirror unit itself feels a little flimsy as I adjusted just this morning (my wife drove the car last night, so all the mirrors were fahked outa wack). But maybe it felt that way BECAUSE the mount is now so tight.

I'll look at it again for the drive home today; and might call the service department back to chat about it.

I'll have to check when I get home to see if there were any part numbers listed for the mirror.

I feel you on that. I'd rather get a kick in the nuts than to have to go to the dealership. :happy0180:
