vs 2013 Dodge Dart

Most of you are probably like what Dodge Dart? Isn't that a classic muscle car?

Well yeah it used to be. Turns out that Dodge is making a Dart once again, and introducing it at the NAIAS as a sport compact.

Here is the link for more info on the Dart - http://www.dodge.com/en/dart/

Now, the reason I chose this car to compare because they claim this:

Quote:
GROUNDBREAKING COMPACT CAR.
THE ULTIMATE BLEND.

Dodge redefines performance in the compact car segment with an all-new, state-of-the-art four-door sedan delivering class-leading aerodynamics. The all-new 2013 Dodge Dart is a thoroughly modern vehicle that's fuel-efficient, beautifully designed and crafted, agile and brings fun back to driving in the segment.

ALFA ROMEO DNA

The all-new Dodge Dart blends Alfa Romeo DNA & Dodge's passion for performance. Dodge Dart is adapted from the award-winning Alfa Romeo Giulietta. The Giulietta is renowned for satisfying the most demanding customers in terms of road-holding, agility and safety, with exceptional driving dynamics. The Dart leverages all of these attributes within a lengthened and widened platform delivering segment-leading levels of interior roominess.

UNMISTAKABLE TECHNOLOGY AND STYLE.

The all-new 2013 Dart delivers unmistakable Dodge design that builds upon its performance heritage while evoking emotion, efficiency and fluidity of movement. Eye-catching exterior proportions are set off from every angle by dynamic lines and curves, along with advanced technology, to deliver class-leading aerodynamic performance.

SOPHISTICATED,
POWERFUL FUEL-EFFICIENT ENGINES.

The 2013 Dodge Dart will be powered by three fuel-efficient, powerful, state-of-the-art four-cylinder engines that add to Dart's fun-to-drive quotient and provide the most diverse powertrain lineup in its class. Choose from a new Tigershark 16-valve 2.0-liter, a 16-valve 1.4-liter MultiAir® Intercooled Turbo, and a new Tigershark 16-valve 2.4-liter MultiAir® four-cylinder engine.
So what do you guys think? A competitor, even if it may be FWD?

Edit: Sounds like they are taking straight jabs at the AS1

Quote:
-The Dart's "driver-centric" layout is designed to put all controls within easy reach of the driver.
-Mopar will also offer hundreds of customization options and themed packages specifically developed for the Dart.
-To deliver class-leading aerodynamic performance.
-Beautifully designed and crafted, agile and brings fun back to driving in the segment.

Interesting. Another cheap AWD 300+ hp turbo lightweight sedan is always welcome.

I'm not sure about a direct competitor. But I will say that it fits into the same general mantra of "smaller and sportier".

A few things kill the Dart for me. FWD and Dodge are the predominant ones, the turbo sounds like it might be the enthusiast option, but at only 1.4L who knows how tuneable it will be.

I'd prefer the GT86 over it of course, but if it were RWD, the choice might be a little harder to make.

It's aiming at the Cruze and Fiesta. The Cruze Eco with Trifecta tune and intake makes close to 200 crank horsepower, not too shabby for a 1.4L that gets almost 50MPG (in the real world).

Trifecta tune 93 octane, no other mods.

There is a 2.0 NA and a 2.4... well not sure if also NA or Turbocharged

But, they do have 3 engines to choose from and different interior trims. Thing is, I best it will weigh a lot. Prolly 3000lbs+, also having 4 doors.

But if it were to be RWD - it would be pretty good direct competitor.

What a joke comparing this to a GT86. Here in EU we have this car for quite some time. It is called Alfa Romeo Giulietta. In terms of driving experience it is worse than my Alfa 147. Quality is not any better, it is still far from any german. An price is high, 32.000 € for an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde with a +200 PS Turbo 1.7l I4.

You saying this thread is a joke or are you saying what they said is a joke?

BTW you telling us that what Dodge says are lies about the Alfa Romeo Giulietta receiving "many awards"? /sarcasm

Dodge by definition: To avoid (someone or something).

Why would you buy a car whose name literally means to avoid??????

No personal experience with Alfas, but the Brit car mags sure rip on all the utilitarian Fiat family cars for crap quality. They make it sound like Chrysler was saved by the Euro Chrysler.

Any insight from people with experience?

(Yes I know, the Brit car writers can be rather biased and nationalistic...)

i've owned many Chryslers over the years and have family members with them (SRT-4, 300C Hemi, 96 Viper GT, numerous Caravans). They make for great company cars (lol) but they are horribly built and you definitely get what you pay for... actually some would argue you get less than what you pay for.

So many buzzwords in that press release made me scoff... Advanced Technology, Groundbreaking style???

I feel bad for saying all this since I really want our American car companies to do better.
