To anyone who has bought a Scion in Canada

If you have bought a Scion in Canada, can you tell us if you negotiated the price the way you would in a traditional dealership, or just paid the asking or advertised price (the way it is done in Scion's US dealerships)?

Canadian website has no mention of Scion pure pricing. Therefore it is the traditional method of negotiating price.

^That was my inference as well. Still like to hear from someone with actual buying experience. Even if we can negotiate I don't imagine the FR-S will sell for less than MSRP for 9-12 months.

As a Scion dealer I can tell you that we mainly try to give you the best price possible on accessories, you can easily call the CAA to check what are the margins dealers have on Scions, most cars are in the 900 -1000$ profit margin, and tho this might sound like a lot of money to some, once you ammount in the salesmen's comission + discount to the customer to beat other dealerships, it doesn't leave for that much when you realize how big an operation a dealership is to run.

Just to give you an idea, margins on most Camrys are closer to 3000$ per car

You get it all back by charging premium for parts and labour

Book value says a job takes 4 hours to complete, competent mechanic finishes in 1 hour, you pocket 3 hour difference, multiply by a whole day and you've made 2-3 grand from a single technitian.

Not to mention disqualifying half of the warranty claims in the hopes that the consumer is too stupid to call up the manufacturer.

Cha-ching!

I stayed away from dealers, but my dad is a little bit niave in that regard, when he came to Canada he thought that it's like paradise and nothing could ever go wrong here.

Every time he took his car to the dealership some shit went down and he somehow ended up walking away with a huge bill

after many eyars he learned the ways of finding independent shops with quality gearheads that get the job done, no bullshit who bill you for the time they actually take to do the job.

and even then not all of them are all that great.

it's a sad state really, i have very little trust in almost any shop. Even those that were "recomended" ended up bending me over in one way or another.

^^ Yeah, unless you're an amateur mechanic yourself and have a code reader, they've got you by the short and curlies.

Sounds like you've been to the Calgary Subaru dealerships haha

On top of charging nearly double anyone else, Subaru Calgary even charges a bullѕhit environmental fee of $20 for every service, no matter what. I got charged it for just a wheel alignment, and when I complained that there are no fluids involved they said it was for the plastic they had to put on the seat. That's some fancy aѕѕ plastic. I don't use them any more.

I love to haggle, but my position is pretty weak when there's 5+ dudes waiting in line behind me. If they can give me a bill or two for ego I'll be fine, but unless they're sitting on the lot don't expect a lot of wiggle room for 6-12 months.

actually this was for a VW dealership... two different ones, and also a Honda place..

i'm actually really hoping that the dealership from which i (may) purchase the car is decent, i really, really, really hope because i don't have quite the free time and space i did as a kid to **** around with my car when something goes wrong.
