Toy/Charity Drive?

Since Norcal86 first elected a board we have held a charity event/toy drive around the holidays. We had an awesome turnout the first year but it has dropped every year since. This event is difficult to organize from a logistical standpoint and is getting to a point where the effort outweighs the benefit. Last year a handful of us attended another organizations event in lieu of throwing our own even to cut down our work while still trying to do something good for the community.

So I am here to ask a few questions:

Do you wish for this event to continue, and if so what would need to be done to improve the turnout from a community perspective?

We have donated to children's hospitals and school districts in the past, is there a different cause you want to donate to (i.e. animals, homeless, etc)? What time of year would be best - the weekend before Thanksgiving? First weekend of December? First weekend in November?

It may be to late to implement these ideas this year but I would like your input on why this event has faltered and if it is worth continuing to put on.

Off the top of my head, working with other car groups. We have had a lot of ex-86 owners move to other cars (idk, i.e S2k or WRX) that are part of larger groups who also do meets/events. This would potentially double attendance so it depends on size of venue. At the end of the day, we all like cars, not just 86s. I myself would be more inclined to go if there are other types of cars, if this is for a toy drive/charity sake, more people, more donations.

We went to a larger event in Union City last year, just didn't have that great of an 86 turnout. Anything in particular at a joint type meet you would be looking for? Or do you specifically mean one hosted by us and invite other groups?

I do remember that, it was fun. I just meant if you plan to host one, perhaps invite other groups if venue is permitting, more cars I would assume more turnout, hopefully.

I really like having this event and have tried to attend it or at least donate to it every year. My wife and I have always done toy drives every year (either at work, with other groups, etc.), so we would be doing something similar anyway, being able to hang out with you guys and check out other cars is just icing.

I would actually prefer it to include other cars, kinda like a C&C set-up. My daughter really enjoyed last year's Sac event at K1. She got to check out all the different cars (86s, muscle cars, old 40's/50's/60's cars, etc) along with the go-karting inside. I think it would be a little tough having the board organize the meet, but working with a group like the local C&C would make more sense and reach a much broader group.

I like the idea of having the summer meet as the "86-exclusive" and the winter/xmas meet as the "mix".

With regards to improving turn-out, maybe use a drive to lure other 86 owners? Perhaps a post-thanksgiving morning drive to and having a toy or school supply as a cost of entry? Not gonna work for my neck of the woods, perhaps bobah a gurlz?
