EXACTLY! We are taking all that dirty dirty oil out of the ground, so it's cleaner.

Makes sense to me!

Ha! Yep, getting a similar leak. If it's under the intake runners toward the back of the motor, I got bad news for you. It's NOT the timing cover. Signs are looking at the head gasket BUT I am confirming with Racer's Line in Concord, CA Tuesday AM. Stay tuned!

I had an oil leak behind the cam that Subaru techs had to fix on my Brz before . I took it in for a leak because I noticed oil in the same area as you . Techs then said it was the cam position sensor and then I got the car back with no leak about a month later from Subaru dealer ship . They warrantied it for me and the car even had the Jackson racing super charger on it . I just had to pay for them to remove and install the super charger as the parts and labor were under warranty .

So following up... my leak is different.
After taking it to an independent Subaru Shop - the 2 sources for my leak are the head gasket or the injector. Mine appears to be spray leaking under pressure.

I'm not versed enough with the FA20 motor to know all the oil leak spots.

Given where yours is on the motor. It's hard to fathom a timing cover leak on top of the motor as I don't *think* the timing cover has that much oil pressure... Enough to push oil upward anyway.

update: first dealer visit , dealer can't confirm where's the leak come from,so they clean it up as much they could and let me drive the car for a week to see does it happen again. The leak comes back two days after normal driving, I would take it back to dealer for second visit tomorrow.

Isn't this fun? I've been about 3 times and 3 weeks for this case. I have to wait until after January to bring it back in (as I am in/out over the holidays) and IF they find something with the car, it's at least a week turnaround.

Good luck with your case. Here's to hoping for easy fixes right?

I bring my car in today, service adviser told me they will do timing chain cover seal repair for me, but I think that will not fix my issue. Service adviser doesn't let me talk to the mechanic about my concern and he insisted I should listen to him, because they have done a lots of those timing chain cover repair. I hope the mechanic will try to find out what's the issue for oil leak between two block after taking the timing chain cover off, I think it should be something leak from the PCV channel inside the block. picture below.
