I doubt it was. I have been to a few tractor pulls and pretty much every one of em had somebody blow an engine in just as spectacular a manner. There is just so much torque involved that when they go they really go. It is sort of what people are waiting for since watching a vehicle slow pull a heavy weight a few yards is not real exciting otherwise.
