This thing has seen all sorts of weather conditions in all sorts of places.


Bobsledding in the FJ is Fun (of course I couldn't capture myself and turning around would have taken 45 minutes to do it again)

A properly built truck can be loads of fun. I learned a lot after getting rid of my heavily modded MR2 Spyder. Don't get rid of a vehicle if it serves a specific purpose. You'll miss it.

The FJ will probably stay. By this summer, I'm sure I'll have a strong urge to go camping/off roading.

Edit: For those concerned with lighting. No HID main beams. Those are LED headlights. 2x foul weather driving, 2x foul weather fog, 4x 9" HID (from my HMMWV in Iraq, personal purchase), and 2x 35 watt pointing to obliques . Oh one backup lamp on a 3 way switch.

I lifted my truck so the bumper is at a height that bypasses crash compatibilities and would be sure to cause massive head trauma to other motorists even in a mild t-bone accident but that's ok because I'm much more careful than everyone else and I'm just one guy...

I think I met you....

In 2009 I was getting ready to pull out of a gas station into traffic when got hit from behind (I was in a Chevy Astro). The guy behind me was in a lifted Toyota truck. His bumper cleared the bumper of the Astro by about 4 inches and smashed in the barn doors. He was very apologetic and then said his wife was going to be pissed. Apparently they had had a "heated debate" over him lifting his truck, she had finally given in and he had just finished the work "yesterday".

Last year, a lifted truck was parked next to my friends Mustang. Truck tried to pull out, was a dumbass, monster-trucked the mustang. Douchebag called his affluent father and his dad came over and told them to keep it "off the books", for insurance's sake. Friend gets fat check to fix up car from affluent father.

All is well right? NO.

These dumbasses lift up these trucks, make too much noise, hang fake testicles from their tow hitches, and are just all around douchbags. They don't actually do any sort of off-roading that might require the use of such a vehicle.

It makes me angry. I hate them all.

One street over from me is a gated community on the water and is full of kids and adults with jacked up diesels and they all drive like assholes. I run a lot so I see them blow by me dusting me in exhaust daily. One day I was out for a walk with my family and one of them comes flying around the corner so I walked out into the road to make him stop and confronted him. He was mostly being a smartass but calmed down. I haven't seen him driving like an ass since. Later I find out from a neighbor that they know the kid's dad and that his dad is a cop. Not sure how someone could live in this neighborhood on a cops salary. We are talking about 5,000-11,000sf homes on the river.

Anyways, yeah I know how you feel about these trucks. I don't care what sort of stuff people do with their money. I don't care if people are into stance cars, mini trucks, ect ect. Just don't drive like an asshole in the neighborhood. Especially in a gigantic truck!

Not going back to read the whole thread so will just consider it new on these last couple of pages.
We don't have a lot of lifted trucks around where I live but a few minutes drive out of the city and they are everywhere.
I normally don't care too much about them one way or another but there are a few things that I will say.


Why do the diesel drivers have some sort of pathological need to coal roll any small car? If I come up behind one I make sure my windows are up and my HVAC off because sure as shit at some point the are going to floor it and engulf me in an immense could of black sooty smoke. There is only about a 2% chance they will not do it as soon as they get a chance.


They are almost impossible to control at any speed. I have driven a couple and even the easiest of tasks such as parking or low speed turns are made difficult. No doubt they get used to it but even then basic accident avoidance maneuvers such as swerving or heavy braking just will not work no matter how well you can handle the beast.


People that heavily modify small cars by engine swaps, lowering or other changes that impact the safety devices design are taking an accepted risk for their own safety. Jacking a truck up 4 feet in the air is taking a risk with everybody else's safety. What could be a minor accident with the same truck at stock height all of a sudden turns into a multiple fatality. It takes a special kind of arrogance to say "fuck everybody else on the road".


All in all I am glad I do not have to deal with them on a regular basis.

Can't speak for these jacked up trucks but my Suburban was terrifying to drive in sweepers when I first got it. The weight transfer is super lagged. You do get used to it but accident avoidance is impossible in some circumstances. You just have to drive accordingly. Make sure you keep your distance and stuff like that. You know, all the things the average person in a big ass truck does NOT do. Even after getting used to how it drives I still feel WAY more safe in a sports sedan or sports car. I don't get this shift from sedans to crossovers which don't offer any more passenger room or trunk space. Sometimes less trunk space. People feel safer being higher. I just don't get it.
