Anyone adding 2 cycle oil with TCW3 to their gas??

There is alot written about the benefit of adding 1oz of this oil to each 5 gallons of gas. I have been doing it in my I30 for 6 months and it does quiet the engine.

http://forums.maxima.org/general-max...troke-oil.html

Seeing how the FRS/BRZ boxer is a noisy, especially with the cricket sound from the fuel pump, has anyone been brave enough to give this a try????? (My BRZ is coming this week!!)

Interesting...

I ran 2-stroke in an external reservoir with my RX-7 (so it wouldn't consume oil from the main sump) but I would never think to do it to a normal gasoline engine. (Rotaries need oil in the combustion area to lubricate the metal seals.) As far as the cricket noise is concerned, though, the high pressure fuel pumps can be replaced under a TSB at the dealer, eliminating the noise if it really bothers you. This is pretty cool; I'll hafta give it a solid read! They reported lower oil consumption which shouldn't affect you guys but my MR2 consumes it's fair share, so...

I have been doing this for years in small engines like lawnmower, tillers, snow etc.It has greatly extended the life of these engines. Can't see the smoke but you can smell that oil is burning.

Never tried it in automotive applications as emissions equipment would become fouled eventually I would think.

This was brought up a long time ago in the hpfp chirping thread. Lots of folks have been doing this.

I did this in the hot weather when the crickets were bad. I found that ~2oz for a tank of gas was enough to stop the chirp. Now that the weather is much cooler, I don't find it is needed.

I can understand why people are apprehensive about using 2T in engines it wasn't designed for and I can also understand why anyone with an engineering background, especially aircraft, would be keen to try it.
2T is lovely stuff, designed to disperse quickly in fuel and then lubricate, clean and finally burn with minimal emissions.
If it can provide all the lubrication in a 2 stroke engine at 50:1 it's not difficult to understand that 1/10 of that amount in a wet sump 4 stroke engine will still offer benefits. Especially in the fuel system prior to being injected where current fuels have lost a lot of their lubricating properties in the quest to lower emissions.

The HPFP chirp in the BRZ/86 running on 10% ethanol was an example of the problems modern fuels can cause. Even 2T added at 1000:1 shut it up soon after restarting the engine. 30sec was mentioned.
1oz per 5gal = 640:1 sounds about right.
As i've mentioned before, my common rail turbo diesel has been getting it at 200:1 almost since new. Now at just over 50,000km it runs better than when it was new, is quieter, uses no oil and gets better economy than others report.

I'll let my GTS 86 run in and then add 100ml to the 50L tank to see what effect 500:1 has and take it from there. I will expect it to be quieter at idle, smoother, with better economy and to last longer.

From their adverts it sounds the same but I would stick with what many people have tried out.
I checked it out and found this on Wikipedia.

At least as of 2002, Mystery Oil is composed of 74 percent mineral oil, 25 percent stoddard solvent, and 1 percent lard

Maybe that's why they keep it a mystery?

Of course it's going to quiet down your HPFP, you're running OIL through a pump that was designed for fuel, which has a much thinner viscosity. The thick oil is going to act as a "cushion" within the pump, insulating the sound.

I'm all for experimentation but it's not a good idea imo. You're going to foul your plugs real quick and your cats may even go out sooner. Don't forget the oil could also potentially clog the injectors, not to mention BOTH fuel pumps.

Dilution. We are talking a couple fl oz per tank here, relax.

It's about a teaspoonfull per gallon and is designed to lubricate, clean and not foul plugs or cats at 20x this amount.
Calm down and try to be objective.

I don't know about trying this in a brand new car, but a friend of mine has a methanol converted turbocharged Ninja 750 and he adds a small amount of either coconut or castor oil to the M100 to keep fuel pumps and other engine components happy after finding that pure methanol (and all pure alcohol fuels) provide zero lubricity.

The only thing I'd worry about is the cats, but at a low enough concentration and using the right oil I could see it being okay.

And you know this for a fact? Do you have any evidence or sources to back up your claims? Not trying to be a **** but I want to see some hard evidence before concluding that 2 stroke is safe for our cars.

I was merely pointing out potential hazards that adding 2t could pose to our cars.
