OFT Questions. Need guidance

Hello guys,

Recently got hold of 2013 86. with 30k miles. I have been driving it for few month and i think i got a good feel of the vehicle. Car has a 3 inch catback and a Perrin intake system. (The smaller version)

I was thinking getting OFT and a headers, I looked into few discussion here and there. Ppl generally seem to love the OFT UEL tune. but there are others who say OFT is a bad idea for engine, because every engine is unique in certain way and should really be tuned on a dyno, with a professional.
(im not looking for a giant power gain, i just want to smooth out the torque dip little bit because it feels weird lol. "VOOOOOOOoooooOOOOOOAAAHM!")

Do you guys think there is any problem with OFT tuning the car with 30k miles?
Does the aftermarket intake system mess with MAF scaling? does that have a potential to be an issue?

Thanks!

The Perrin CAI does jack up the MAF scaling quite a bit. But, there is some general maf scaling floating around for both of the Perrin intake setups. Depending on how computer savy you are there is a lot of info and getting the maf properly scaled isn't too difficult. Even with the scaling off the ECU does a pretty good job of correcting. It's just not optimal.

This thread has links to scaling for the 2.5 and 3" Perrin CAI.

Does that mean car will be running rich or lean air fuel mixture?

It will be rich so you will need to lean out the scaling quite a bit. The 2.5 scaling got me in the ball park but I still had to do some tweaking from there.

What does "got me in the ball park" mean?

You want to see LTFT's within +/-3% or better. With stock tune I was seeing -10 with the maf reading under 3v, after I used the 2.5 scale that it got me into within -5 from 0 to almost 3v on the maf, over that was pretty close.

3 independent questions for the OP in no particular order...

1. Are you willing to spend money on top of the oft purchase for etuning?

2. Are you willing to invest some time to understand the basics of how your ECU works?

3. Red pill or blue pill?

1. not sure what etuning is, does it has anything to do with ecutec? dyno turning?

2. absolutely

3. i always pop the red pill

When you get the header, pay the extra for interior and exterior coating, especially with a 2013. At very least wrap it really well. Tons of stories on this forum about damage done from the extra heat. 2013's have some of their own issues on top of that.

what issues? can you direct me towards the discussions or something?
you want me to get JDL coated headers, or get a heat shielding? will that be enough? im not sure im aware of any other heat wrapping practices.

Good.

So, oft makes money in 2 ways. Selling hardware, and etuning services. The off-the-shelf tunes are free.

Off-the-shelf tunes are generally leaving power on the table, and can sometimes need some adjustment to get running just right. Same issue the stock tunes have where the same thing needs to work on many engines, which always have slight variations. They work just fine, but it won't be optimized.

That's where etuning comes in. Etuning is generating a custom tune file from customer logs. You just generate some logs, send them out, and get a file back that is customized to your car. Repeat a few times and you're done.

I never did any etuning myself. I learned (am still learning really lol) how to dial in my file myself. This forum has 90% of the info you need to do it.

Red pill time. Read this if you haven't already.

Your the first person I've ever seen mention needing a wrap on aftermarket headers.
