It seriously does not look far off from that picture except a different style of anvil and some hydraulic tools. We still roll some spring eyes by hand. We have some punches from the 50's. One of them is 105 ton of pressure and weighs over 40000 lbs.

Either one of you ( @cjd ) been through Watts (in LA) lately?

A Watt is a unit of power, not volume.

I was so upset i ended up showering and going to bed. I really wanted that lighter as a piece of history between my family and ww2 and even desert storm, I guess now its a choice of trying to find another historical lighter, or making a new one for myself and making it mean something for my future generations.
Ebay? Next time, set the maximum you're willing to go. People can bid up but not snipe you.

A lesser known fact is that wattage tends to be disproportionate to the users iq

Getting a lot harder to do. I'm finding myself more on amazon than ebay anymore. Deals are harder to come by..

I shop both. I almost always use buy it now on ebay as I don't have the patience for auctions. if I want it, I don't want to wait an extra week before the item ships so I can save two bucks. I just bought 300 pegboard hooks on ebay for 30 bucks, 6 bucks + tax cheaper than Amazon and in the color I want. Reviews of sellers are much better on ebay. Amazon is a fucking mess sometimes.

Walmart usually doesn't have good prices anymore, at least not online. Sometimes they're good in person, but once they killed all the little stores, they jacked a lot of prices. Fuckers.

Target is usually bad online, but I love shopping there. I usually just browse around the edges, getting whatever I want on clearance. Sometimes I find some amazing stuff for cheap. They also have some great branded toys, like the Jigglypuff mug I got a few months ago. I haven't seen that anywhere else, even online.

I also like slickdeals and dealnews. Fanatical has some good game deals. When Think Geek has a clearance sale, I go nuts, though usually I'm too late for the good stuff. Got some Atari branded cool stuff from them recently. I'm all over the place, baby.

The thing with ebay is items of particular rarity pop up,

this particular lighter was a 1983 Re-comissioning ceremonial brass cased zippo for the USS Wisconsin, the last of the american battleships. My grandfather was in a flotilla with one and I ewas born right around the end of the desert storm initiative, of which the wisconsin was the last ship to leave the area and last to fire off weaponry

So it had sentimental value to me

my dumb luck I shoulda slapped 200 down on it and taken it. You can just find something like that on amazon

:/ so now i guess Ill be searching the "ending soon auctions" and see if i cant snake up another, maybe carrier based.

the thing that really irks me is the guy who snaked it from me had a seller/ebay score rating of 1998, which means he sells stuff alot on ebay, i bet hes gonna buy it, refurbish it and turn around and sell it for 300 or 400.
meanwhile I wante dto refurb it and use it

I'm sorry that you missed the item on ebay. Here's how it works:

You put your maximum bid in the moment you see what you want. You don't have to wait until the auction is about to end.

So you find the item. It's at $10 starting bid with nobody on it. You know you'll pay $200 and no more, so you put $200. Your bid is then at $10. Somebody bids $50. Your bid goes to $50. They go 51. Yours goes to 51. You're still winning. They go to 200. Yours goes to 200. You're still winning. they go to 201. Now they're winning and you're tapped out. If you lose, then it's because you didn't put a high enough maximum bid. If you actually would have paid 400, you should have put a 400 maximum bid.
