But that's the whole point. I did not buy this car for fuel economy. As I stated earlier, I am fine with 20 mpg for having fun. To each his or her own, of course. Still I don't see myself cruising at 4000 rpm constantly simply because I don't find necessary or even enjoyable. Again every person enjoys this car his or her own way.
Peace

Ahhhh the semi annual mileage duck measuring contest.

When everybody drives exactly the same way, over identical terrain and conditions then we can get together and see how the cars vary. Other than that any comparison is just pissing into the wind.

Getting up to speed faster, getting into 4th/ 5th gear yields better MPG then doing so slower (for any vehicle), however if what you say is true ( which sounds right, seems correct) then the FRS over say 5+ miles in 6th gear (same gear) should yield slightly better MPG then a '17+ 86. Same aero, same tires …. etc.

I was mainly thinking since there is more free flow of air (intake manifold / header) in the '17+ , I suppose it depends how it's tuned from the factory buy that in itself could go either way in helping/ hurting MPG.

BTW, better efficiency will always trump better higher HP/torque (in my book). You cannot have your cake and eat it to, and car manufactures know this. Buy a Chevy Bolt, all electric, potentially low energy costs…. but how is it to drive ? A Corvette, great HP/ torque , but will most likely never be over 25mpg city (maybe if they come out with a V6 version). Handling is also important to me, some cars do it better then others (Saturn = sad-turn). It's good to look at the big picture of what a vehicle has to offer (MPG, versatility, reliability, over cost, etc). There are compromises to be made.

The automatic gets slightly better MPG -- it's not drastically better. Mostly because the A/T is geared taller and that the transmission drops you into the highest gear as fast as possible. However, if you're driving it hard -- it's about the same.

I’m getting 7.8 l/100km (from the display on the dash) - that’s apparently 30 mpg. My driving is a mix of maybe 25% around town and 75% country roads at 110.

You drive on the highways slower than everyone else. Or live in an area warmer than everyone else. Cold effects gas mileage worse than most other things. When I was commuting 120 miles a day on half country roads and half highway, my mileage varied from just over 40 mpg to around 35 with the weather. This was from September to January, and the cold really killed the gas mileage.

People always say accelerating faster gets better gas mileage but that is just totally wrong. Accelerating slower and shifting as low in the rpm band as possible gets better gas mileage.

2017 NA manual

25.57 US MPG (google converter)

9.2 ltrs per 100km, average taken over 20k km.

As a daily driver, lots of Hwy, lots of thrashing.

But it wouldn't matter much, I am lucky enough that my workplace is 7 miles away from me...I fill up my tank every 9-11 days depends where I go on weekends.

I’ve been playing around with burn and glide on my commute, which is moderately hilly and mostly 100 or 110 km/h zones. Essentially on the flatter sections I burn at ~12l/100km on the display in 6th to 115, then coast back to 90 in neutral, then repeat. On the uphill sections I just use the cruise control at the speed limit, and I then coast at or close to the speed limit down hill.

Result is ~5.5-6 l/100km for the 93km commute, depending. I reckon if you were suitably patient you could easily get well under 5.

My overall fuel consumption (from new) is now reading 7.4.

Hey, I’ve gotta do something on my commute, amd this is at least cheap.
