The thing still amuse me is the fact that before someone buy a car they thought "what they will think of this car" . An example is "if i buy a mustang i can brag about hp/tq" and such.
I dont need to showoff, increase the risk and i would not be rewarded either. |

Look at any dyno for the thing, it makes a huge lump of torque between, 2.5-3.5k, I don't need to rev past 4k for driving around town even when driving like an idiot.
That's really my experience on my roads. Doing a tight corner at 40 MPH in my automatic, I'm in 3rd gear at 3000 RPM. Stomp on the gas and go to 50 MPH at 4000 RPM. Blip on ye ole paddle shifter to 4th gear and your at 3000 RPM and accelerating nicely. |

The only way that my FRS could be any better is if it came with Anna Kendrick. Honestly, I'm going to be spoiled rotten having this as a first sports car because I doubt pretty much nothing else on the market will make me smile so hard. Even a year later I still walk away from my car after a drive saying I love this car.
People need to stop over analyzing this car and just test drive one. 9/10 people won't be disappointed. There will always be that group of people that don't enjoy it more because they might live somewhere that has a lot of straights and not many corners and that's fine. But go out and drive one and stop worrying about numbers if you're serious about the car. |

My wife is still learning to drive. She mistakenly took of from standstill, on level ground, in third. I complimented her on not stalling. She was just feathering the throttle around 2-3k. I don't get this talk of no low end torque.

Find someone with an old sports car and ask them to let you drive it, then get back in you FRS/BRZ. That's where us old guys are coming from. We loved our old, light sports cars, but we now have a car that out handles them, has all the modern conveniences, is at least 3 seconds quicker to 60, and is dead solid reliable for DD.
If you have to have 300-500 hp in daily driving, you're a lazy driver. I would love a louder exhaust. I'll do that and put better tires on it when the originals wear out and I'll be satisfied. Also, learn to work with the shifter/trans and it's sublime. |

my Mitsubishi had zero issues that I didn't directly cause and wasn't all that much more money than my frs, the only car ive had issues with in the rain is my frs because they didn't install body plugs so water was getting in my car. ive owned a lot of cars and this is probably the one with the most issues. |

I modified mine about a week after I bought it a couple years ago, so I never really knew what it was like to drive a stock one around. When it was built up, I loved it. Drove great, handled well, just the right amount of power (header, exhaust, & tune), and was super fun. Now, the car has been stock for a couple months and I have to say, it's a bit toobland for me. It's still a good chassis and I love the car, but it just isn't much of any fun to me for day to day driving.
The car is a blank canvas, and it has loads of potential. I personally feel like the best way to enjoy the car is to make it your own and just improve a few aspects of the car a little bit here and there. For my entire ownership, I'd give it a 90/100. It's the most fun car that I've owned and was super easy to work with. I just wish it had a stronger drivetrain and more clearance under the front fenders for steering angle(I used mine for drifting so my interests/desires may be different from most). If those two details were not of issue, I'd probably give the car a 95/100. For me to give the car a full blown 100/100, the car would have needed to come turbocharged from the factory as well. I'm well aware why the car is N/A and I love the way it drives. It's just that, for me personally, it would have been the cherry on top cause I know at that point, all you would need is a downpipe/J-pipe, exhaust, and tune, and you'd probably be around the 300whp and that would be perfect. Keep in mind that this is just my personal preference based on my intentions I had with the car, so others on this forum may not agree. No regrets buying the car though. My interests and priorities have just changed a bit, so now the car no longer suits what I'm looking for in a vehicle. Now I'm just waiting for the new engine to make it's way into the new STI and I'll be ready to make the switch.

Power is a different story and I understand some people feel that it is underpowered and nothing I say will change that. And of course comparing torque to cars with bigger engines is silly, if that's the criteria then why discuss at all? Obviously the 86 "fails" in that aspect, not much to be said. I can however be confused how in the world they struggle on 200 horses when many people remember the days when most cars had less than 100 and most cars sold today have less than 150. |
