Hi Mike-

Hoping you can help with some alignment settings plus front AND rear ride-height recommendations for an FR-S track car. Car details:

250WHP turbo'd
HKS Hipermax IV SP coilovers w/adjustable camber plates
stock sways
255/40R17 Hankook RS4

I can add rear toe arms if necessary.

I'm especially curious about ride height (I've read that going too low affects the roll center & causes bumpsteer) and whether there should be any 'rake' front-to-back.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

NA car with bolt ons.

Which would have a greater effect on underhood temps: coating the header or adding hood vents?

Underhood temps is a fuzzy term, what are you trying to achieve?

Hard to say. Does it happen on both left and right turns?

Longevity. I dont have a specific area I'm hoping to improve but just knowing how hot the car gets. Or if its just a waste to bother with it if oil/coolant temps are fine

That's unfortunately too vague to even guess at anything.

Got an Ecutek/AIM datalog?

@CSG Mike, I have my first track day coming up. I will be running 17 x 8 +35 wheels and 225 hankook RS4 tires. I'll likely run EBC yellowstuff pads (they will be swapped down the road).

Factory alignment right now, though I do have a couple decent shops in my area.

I'm considering camber bolts for the first couple track days then graduating to LCA's, coils and the works as I progress and see the need.

Any thoughts? I'm also thinking about going stock and seeing exactly what it needs from there, but if I can eliminate some tire wear than I suppose an alignment (with camber bolts) is the way to go.

Don't waste your time with yellowstuff. Get front camber bolts before your first day, or you will wear your tires on the outside shoulder excessively.

On stock brakes, DS2500 pads. First time on the track with the car rotors got to glowing red. Minor fade. Brakes still work fine.

Will ducting alone be a solution? I know the AP kit is an option for better heat dissipation but I'm not interested in the buy-in for the kit.

Upgrade pads and fluid. OEM calipers are sufficient for track use. Ducting works but you will go through rotors faster.

Will do, maybe DS3000 then. Fluid is already ATE so good there. Really just concerned since I've never had glowing red rotors

DS2500 are not track pads. They can briefly tolerate low track temps, but will wear excessively quickly.

It sounds like time for some serious track pads.

A proper BBK will save you a TON of money in the long run.

Yeah thats off the table since I'm not serious about the track day thing. If I was, yeah for sure a BBK and all that. I might do one day a year plus a time trial event, but my focus is STX on the cheap still. If I can get by with a pad change on stock brakes and maybe ducting, I will do that. If you're saying a BBK is the only way, well I guess I gotta stop the track days lol.

But thank you for the recommendation. If I get more serious about it I'll definitely consider the BBK.

You can get away with just a pad change, I know quite a few guys will casually track with just a pad swap for track pads without a BBK. A BBK is definitely not necessary if you only track once a year.
