Im now averaging about ~29-30 mpg driving moderately hard (combined city/highway)

I'm curious to know what the fuel economy people are getting with those automatic transmission.

I feel like its more than the manual. 5-6mpg more.

Edit:

After reading a couple post, I saw discussions on which fuel they use.

I initially started using only 91 Octane Shell Power-V for the first 1000 miles or so.

Then recently switched to 93 Octane no ethanol (I think) BP fuel.

So far, no significant difference in fuel economy. I think I got 30-31 mpg on the shell but cricket noise were too buggy for me. After switching to BP 93, the cricket noise was reduced slightly. Maybe just placebo effect.

I average 30mpg in my car but on highway trips I can get 33mpg. I'm happy with that.

Your sudden drop in fuel economy is strange, but not this part.

I wonder if it's a tank of bad gas?

I stopped using Shell years ago because of bad gas on multiple occasions. Maybe it was just a fluke but I never like Schumacher anyway so it was an easy decision.

You have something wrong and/or drive WOT ALL the time. You would be off the chart of Fuelly with BY FAR the worst MPG recorded in over 300,000 miles!

Sitting still you are getting 0 (yes, 0 miles) per gallon. You could use a whole tank and go zero miles. Idle is the worst.

Plus if you reset your average it will take a while to, well, average. Figure a good run is about 100 miles. Reset it going down hill, 127MPG. Reset it parked, 0MPG. If you rest it, ignore it for awhile. This car will easily get 30MPG, even mixed driving, so anything above or below that is purely the driver/driving.

You guys getting 30+ miles per gallon bought the wrong car. You should have bought a Prius driving like that.

That's the part that befuddles me. I don't drive it like its a Prius.

I'm always the guy racing away from every stop light, I constantly have to brake on off ramps because I catch up with other traffic doing twice their speed, and I get stuck in traffic commuting daily.

Basically, I enjoy the car as much as I can (relatively) legally and I'm still averaging well over 30MPG. I never thought or expected that to happen. I figured if I averaged the city number I'd be doing good.

That's one of the things I wanted when I bought the 86, able to have fun playing in traffic without having to worry about losing my license.

Far from "babying" the car when I drive. I averaged 29mpg on my last fill up using all back roads for my commute to work.

Update...now I'm showing a combined 25 mpg with the same driving style/route as before my oil change and latest gas fill up. that's about 4-5 mpg less. i dunno, not a big deal but just weird and it bugs me not knowing why.

I'm averaging 24mpg. But My last couple of fuel-ups have been 22 since I put the AM exhaust on. I'm about 60/40 highway/city.

Before at fill up and after. I have an auto and haven't passed 4000 rpm. I just hit 1000 miles half city half highway about a week ago and thats when i took the pics. No i dont drive like a race car driver. This seems way to low compared to you guys. I am afraid if i bring it in they will laugh at me and tell me to stop driving like im racing everyone on the street. Ive been real careful during the break-in period so idk what to do. Bring it in or not. What you guys think pics are attached below

@rhood168 have you ever reset the average fuel economy indicator or is that fuel economy cumulative since you bought the car?
