No, you don't. Blind spot or no, you should always check your mirror AND glance to the side to check for traffic. If you have your mirror set up properly, a car in an adjacent lane will always be visible by looking perpendicular out your window, or looking in the mirror.

I have my seat all the way back. Even with a pillar on my side I still never lose sight of a car passing on either side.

I have ALWAYS adjusted my mirrors to see the edge of my car. It gives you a frame of reference to other objects whereas just tipping the mirror out to where you cannot see the car, you have not frame of reference to know where the mirror is actually pointing.

And - I back my car into my driveway about 4 times a day.

So how do you back your car up using mirrors if you cant see your fender?

You don't have to have full visibility of your car to use it as a point of reference.

Exactly.

Adjust your mirror all way out and allow a car to pass you, track it with your mirrors and see that it is in view the entire time. No blind spot (I can almost fit a motorcycle in there, tbh).

If you want to see your fender, just put your head closer to the glass. I don't have to touch the glass to see it.

That's actually the way I learned how to adjust my mirrors: put head against window, adjust so just the last bit of the rear quarter panel is showing. When you move your head back and sit normally, your car isn't blocking any part of the mirror, and the blind spot is practically removed.

So I guess "a tiny part of my fender visible at the edge of my side mirrors" is now "full visibility".
Got it!

And unless you can see part of the car you do NOT have a valid frame of reference. If you do not have a reference point and your mirror gets moved out a bit you would not know it immediately.

Many people have commented on my ability to park in precisely the same spot, at work and at home, day after day. How do I do that? With my mirrors and a vaild reference point.

Not sure what's up with the hostility(by "full visibility" I meant being able to see any part of your car), but once you set your mirrors out a bit past your car, you will learn where your car is in relation to what you see in the mirror. That becomes your new reference point even though it isn't a static item in the mirror (for me at least).
It is a little awkward at first but it definitely gives you a better angle on everything around you.

Interesting definition of "hostility".
I think the word you were looking for was "sarcasm".

All I am saying is that if I couldnt see the ass of my car in my side view mirrors, I could not park the way I have been doing it for 30 years....

To each his own.
I use the convex mirror on the driver's side, and I always look over my shoulder when changing lanes to the passenger side.
Although a motorcyclist could still hide in your blind spot on that side even if you look over your shoulder.
Situational awareness is STILL the #1 most important driving skill.

I use my rear view and side view mirrors to back up. If I adjust my mirrors to see my fenders, it creates large blind spots while driving on the highway. I can back down my friends long driveway fine, which I do often. I've also only had street parking for the last ten years, so parallel parking is not a problem either. I don't understand what you need a "frame of reference" for.
I think this poor topic is getting beat to death. Anyone want to go kart racing? No mirrors involved..

Even if you adjust your mirrors there is a blind spot two lanes over. If both you and the other guy are changing to the lane between you then you won't see him without glancing over your shoulder. And if you change lanes as fast as some of the douchebags I see on the road then you'd end up hitting him.

Yep, I'm guessing you didn't read page one of this thread, where that was covered.

Move your head Also, even with the passenger side mirror angled correctly, you can still see the side of your car a bit because it's convex glass.

Which is why in driving school the right hand lane has the right of way in this situation.
