Correct, I`m from Tasmania, I dare to say I can count the 86s with my hands in the whole state ha, probably no sub-forums

They just cut the liner in another place.
The only way to fix it, as they said, is to replace or re-cover the hood liner. Or buy a useless ETC to put there. ETC=Electronic Toll Control.

Will this work for you? My "probably" was referred to the fact I don't know if your car is Japanese import car.

There's small 'ridges' around the inside perimeter of the enclosure indicate whatever went there was a friction fit inside the enclosure. That would indicate it was intended to be removed, but also wasn't anticipated to be removed often beyond the initial install.

Second thought was a track transponder/lap counter, but all the one's I'm finding are more square than rectangular like that.
