That's hella expensive! Maybe they're publishing that figure to tell people 'we're not going to sell it to anyone just yet'?

Would rather have a C6 anyway, the new one looks wretched beyond compare.

Are people really making a big deal out of one engine failure? You guys have no idea how common this is...

Chevrolet Division needs to poach Ian Callum from Jaguar.

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic given the TSB's to correct early FA20 failures.

That's why I wrote "undetermined". Truth will tell but it's good to see GM do the right thing for now.

To be first at anything, notorious or famous, will get attention regardless.

He does do a good job when it comes to the classic sports car shape, i.e. long hood and short trunk.

I have no idea if I phrased that correctly, I just know them as bonnet and boot respectively haha.

This is ridiculous. Engine failures happen all the time for new cars, even cars which have had the same engines for years, Camry, Accord, etc. Internals not torqued to specs, harsh finishes and overall defective parts are common in all car companies.

The only time we should hear about engine failures is when they're consistent or when the dealership won't replace the engine if the car is under warranty.

If it's not any of the two above, than we simply take it as it is and move on.

I love how they overblown this, this part in particular really shows how media hungry places can be.

Some people on the forum find the LT4’s failure inexcusable. What do you think? In today’s world of sophisticated technology, should cared-for engines be failing in brand-new cars that are designed with 100,000-mile warranties in mind? Also, what could this mean for the LT4-powered 2016 Cadillac CTS-V?

My bet is rod bearings.
There was a problem with the LT1s in the non-Z06 C7's where metal particles broke off the oil filter/housing and fucked up the rod bearings.

Or he money shifted and spun the engine to well over redline, that's usually what causes valvetrain faliure.

I did that once while roll racing in my old LS1. Bent a pushrod, still ran but sounded like shit. Easy pushrod swap and back in business. Pushrod engines can be problematic with overrev.

According to Rennsport, the Porsche GT3 recall and buyback that became the largest in their history was the result of two engine failures. Should they have waited or moved on?

I don't know how many Ferrari 458 failures there were before they were also recalled or bought back. Don't think they should've waited or moved on either.

Those two examples had the chance of burning the cars to the ground. If I owned either, I'd want the manufacturer to step up immediately, fire risk or not.

Like I said, credit to GM for their response to a so far unknown cause of failure. It's on them to inform owners quickly on what precautions to take, if any, until they determine responsibility. Anything less risks tarnishing the image of halo cars sharing that engine. Not ridiculous in my book, it's expected from an ethical manufacturer.

Also, I don't recall reading about engine failures due to manufacturing defects in new Camrys that have carryover drivetrains like my 2015 V6. I'd be interested in learning more. What's your source?

I was thinking this...

Go look at the EJ Forums...there are people on their 3rd engine, while still under warranty

EDIT: I owned an STi and I enjoyed it...but every weird sound did spook me.

Not sure why this is some sort of news event. Who gives a shit about one blown engine unless it's their engine? Oh, right, Corvette. The only car that attracts as many "hey look at me" types as the 911.

Regardless, I hope the guy's new motor doesn't pop. That sucks no matter who you are or what you drive.
