Delayed boot up on Pioneer AVH-X8850BT

Just got a Pioneer AVH-X8850BT installed.

http://www.pioneer-latin.com/en/prod...550bt-506.html

I have two issues with it that I have searched and can't find anything on.

1. In my 86 about half the time the head unit doesn't boot up straight away. If I leave the car running and just drive off it starts the boot sequence after about 50s. A pain if you want to use the reversing camera straight away.

2. The quality of music through iTunes on CarPlay on my iPhone6S is pretty crappy. Not sure if my phone, the head unit, or my speakers.

Has anyone had any experience with either of these issues? I'm going back to the installer next week but don't have a lot of faith that they will fix it.

I've got the pioneer avic f80dab and it has the same problem. A real pain in the butt for the reverse camera.

Sometimes it's instant, sometimes it's a minute. No pattern

I have the OEM Audio Plus and music from my iPhone 6s is great through both Bluetooth and direct connect.

The stock speakers for the BRZ were soooo bad. I couldn't listen to music through them. It was a horrible experience.

Do you have push to start ignition?
my understanding is this is a common issue for push to start. I have manual key start so I don't know much about the issue ut I have seen it discussed on this forum.

On the apple iTunes part, I'd be surprised if its the head unit, or connection. my android auto quality is ever so noticeable better than my Bluetooth quality using an LG G4 and jet audio.

our sources effected? try a CD or a USB to debug, I use a USB source for debugging pretty often.

I have push button start.

I found some mention of a new more powerful battery solving the problems. *Apparently* our cars have a shitty battery.

@Chimera, what do you mean by debugging with a CD or a USB?

@softgrip I seem to have found the problem.

I have push start as well.

When you start if you look at the clock it flashes on for an instant, then off, then on again indicating power is on for a moment, off for a moment, then fully on. Seems these modern head units don't like this on, off, on power and crash sometimes.

A friend in our car club had the same problem and solved it with a small circuit he made to delay boot up for 1.5s so the power wasn't interrupted.

I'm going back to the shop today and if they can't fix it I'm going to get him to install one of his circuits in for me. I'll let you know how I get on.

The more powerful battery you mention might work by leaving some residual power to the head unit so the power isn't interrupted.

a CD or a USB are both pretty stable sources as far as quality is concerned, so you can eliminate questions like, is my phones Bluetooth or processor overloaded??.. by using a CD or USB, if your problem persists then its further down the line, if not, might be your phone, mp3 player, laptop.. whatever..

that's what I meant, just having a source you are familiar with and is known to be issue free.

Not sure what circuit this is, but a small capacitor could prob correct this issue with ease.. again I don't have a push start car, so I am not intimately familiar, but it sounds like you're on the right track

Yep, some small circuit board with capacitor or similar is what he has made.

Problem solved.

@Tech made me a relay that delays the unit turning on for about 1s after receiving power. That way the unit is not affected by the ignition cutting the power on startup as happens in the 86.

Here's the circuit

The circuit also has about a 3s delay for turning off so you can turn car off and then select accessories without the unit turning off and needing to boot up again. It cmbnes the delay start with his delay off circuit he posted about here
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104178

@Tech is a very clever man.

@softgrip I did discover a workaround before installing the delay circuit you might want to try.

When starting the car do it all in this sequence.
Turn accessories on (ie: press start button without clutch in)
Wait a couple of seconds until the pioneer splash screen shows
Plus clutch in and start car

Doing the above means the unit boots up normally and isn't delayed. Just means remembering to turn accessories on for a second before starting car. That leaves enough residual current in the head unit so it is not affected but the interrupted power.
