There are ways to share anonymously.

I guess I'll look into it sometime this week if I get a chance.

Guys we are loosing focus here
What map extension are the units using? Can't you just update the original SD card (until its figured out how the card is encrypted) with new maps?

It uses .fbl/fda/fp/fsp for the maps
.poi for Point of Interest
.3dc for 3D building content.

If someone can link me the latest Australian maps (PM me), I'll try them using the original SD.

At this rate I might just get them to put a better unit in no updates since 2010... that's going to be helpful for the next 5 years

I'm starting to think the same. But I despise HU shopping. I'm never 100% satisfied with any. ><

Neither... we can pool our thoughts and shop together. All I want is "the best" so it shouldn't be too hard
But it always comes back to some crap compromise.

alpine..

I'm a big Alpine fan, but the Pioneer looks good ! 2K for a HU? I suppose it RRP so a screw down in price should be in order ! What about the 86 tho, doesn't the car communicate with the HU to display "other" information? IF not then it's purely an entertainment unit. I've read Whereas maps are better than Navteq tho.

Yeah, as I've said many times on here, the HU is a POS for all kinds of reasons, probably the least of which being map updates (the underlying routing algorithms will still be poor, after all).

Getting it replaced and then integrating a rear vision camera and the right other audio bits for decent audio quality is still my highest mod priority. The idea of spending $2,500 for this kind of thing when tablets run in the low hundreds does not, in the least, delight me or seem the right direction to head.
