Oil Cooler FI
I was planning on hitting the track next season which means I'll need an oil cooler for sure. Currently I'm running an AVO turbo kit, and so I was wondering if mounting an oil cooler directly in front of the intercooler would have any adverse affect on the intercooler performing its job. Would I see a noticeable difference in charge air temperatures?
Also I was considering the Maximal Performance oil cooler which runs a 13 row Setrab core, similar to Perrin's. I've been reading around the forums and have heard some people saying the 13 row Setrab unit was enough cooling for FI on the track, while others are saying it's not enough. What oil coolers are you FI guys running on the track? I live in Washington so track day temperatures typically reach at most 90F.

I know that someone with an edelbrock kit noticed an increase of IAT when having the oil cooler directly in front of his LTR. Being an air to water setup, is not sure how much it will effect air to air, but it is noticeable. Jackson racing places their oil coolers behind the intercooler, for what its worth. I think if you leave adequate space between the intercooler and oil cooler, along with keep your air flow foam piece in place, you should be okay. Probably an increase of IAT, but nothing to worry much about.

A 13 row Setrab is not enough, if you're a decently fast driver.

Dual series 9 setrab 25 row cores (I have since determined that dual series 6 cores may be sufficient and would fit with a bumper crash beam). Harrop Supercharger 15 psi. Series 6 13 row will definitely not be enough unless you are a beginner. As you get faster, you will outgrow it fast. Placing it in front of the intercooler will super heat the intercooler core. The oil cooler sheds a ton of heat and it will go directly into anything behind it. I would recommend placing your oil cooler/coolers in the side vents.

Nothing. The Brembo Club Race kit with the large brake rotor is holding up fine.

How about a Mishimoto 19 row? Or what other units would you recommend?

Just wondering, since I've been planning on going with that exact core, how did you mount your cores?

Yes I have both coolers as well as the radiator completely sealed off with ducting to to their respective bumper openings. The heat shed by the cores flows through the space under the headlights, into the engine bay, and out the hood vents. Highly recommend hood vents especially on a FI setup to release the high pressure that builds up and pull air through all the cores.

L brackets to mounting points on chassis and AC condenser brackets.
