I think,if the front bother people so much, You could always buy the other twin. It looks mostly just like the first one they made. Like they got lazy and just changed like two things. Jut my opinion haha

Ahhh but see some of us didn't buy that one in the first place because we didn't like the bumper!
You are correct though. If I had to chose one of new options though I would indeed do the BRZ because TO ME it is the lesser of the evils.
I am in no way telling other people they should not like the new 86 bumper but simply explaining what I think bothers me about it. I fully understand and appreciate that they can not design a car that appeals to everybody.

I hate it too, I liked it more In the old days where some not all manufacturer actually took the effort to make their cars look differnt but still you can tell it's from that manufacturer

Whenever I see these kinds of design disasters (see also: most of the Nissan lineup) I wonder how any contemporary carmaker can let this happen. Garbage like this should never have gotten past a few properly-run focus groups. Are the designers and execs at these firms so arrogant they think they know better than their customers?

For one, I think a lot of times they think they are going to start a trend. It's like fashion, except the consumers don't buy into the bullshit quite as much. They're not looking for what people like now, they're looking for what people don't realize they're going to like next year. Look at what Chris Bangle did at BMW. Everyone hated his early designs, and now pretty much every luxury car looks like them (not that it's a good thing, but it works).

Also, cultures? I know Japan is a much more seafood based country, so maybe...

(full disclosure: I always liked the BRZ nose better, and this new 86 nose is just horrendous IMO.)

Cultural xenophobia and arrogance may certainly be part of it - assuming a design that floats the boat in an automaker's home market will be accepted worldwide. But the widespread practice of Asian car companies building design studios in customer countries and staffing them with locals was intended to correct for that. In some cases it clearly hasn't worked.

Only some of Chris's "advanced" design ideas were ever accepted, and generally in watered-down form. Remember the initial "Bangle butts"? As I recall, BMW dropped them fairly quickly.

And somehow I don't think the new front clip on the GT86 refresh is going to start a new industry design trend...don't know why....
