I wouldn't be surprised if the Subaru gauges end up being red with white needles, that's what the current WRX/STIs are and it looks great.

As for brightness, the older WRXs used to be very bright sometimes, but my 2008 has a great range of adjustment, I move it around a lot depending on conditions but am pretty much always happy.

Red lights old eyes

As father time takes its toll first thing you notice (apart from hair loss) is vision.

I have trouble reading Red gauges at night they become blurred (only in the last 4 years). No problem with white or blue.

the red needles with orange everything else in my tacoma works well for me. just drove for 10+ hours after working in the morning, with no issues at the end of the drive in very dark conditions.
