Who would be interested in a Vorshlag Magnum XL transmission kit?
Vorshlag has a Magnum XL mounted into an 86 chassis already with their LSx swap project. Driveshaft, mounts, shifter solution; everything is already designed for the car. Seems they're already over halfway thru the design process to make the transmission work with an FA20 motor, or am I missing something? I sent them a message already suggesting they look into it but haven't heard back.
What would be the big design issues left to overcome? I'm not savvy on the splines and all that, but people have put T56 trannies in 86 cars with the FA20, correct? It seems crazy that with all the 500+hp FT86 cars running around grenading transmissions that there aren't quite a few shops clamoring at cornering the transmission swap kit market! |

All the parts they have will only work if the bellhousing can be made to keep the FA20 in the stock location and put the transmission where the LSX kit puts it.

The main issue is that the FA20 engine is about six or eight inches further forward than the LSx engine. Even with the extended length T56 the shifter would have to be extended a huge amount. Alternatively, you could use a remote shifter with all of it's issues.
Or, move the engine back, a lot. Which is almost as hard as doing an engine swap.

Exactly how many cars are we talking about, because in my view, it's a very, very small market. Small enough that shops that do this are not clamoring for it. Small enough that I'd consider it's basically a one-off custom application and might be duplicated a couple times, but not really enough for a kit.
