My chirps seem to be intermittent when using Lucas fuel injector cleaner. Try that. Before using it they were constant.

I'm coming from a Golf TDI that also had HPFP issues. In those cars, when the pump goes, it grenades it self into millions of pieces and wipes out the whole fuel system. $8,000 repair bill.
Ahhh, that's the context everyone needed to understand why you were so concerned about the HPFP!

An $8k repair would really ruin my day. What generation Golf TDI has that issue? My friend bought a 2013 as his commute car last year. He's over 40k miles already with zero issues.

I just filled up at Shell and I don't think I have crickets this particular tank of gas so far. Will keep an ear out and try again on my next tank too. Could just be fuel quality

I have a TDI as well I'm not keeping past warrenty for that exact issue. It started in 2009 and has gotten less and less common as the generation progressed, which ends at the 2013 model. MK7s release next summer iifc

Mine is certified until Aug 2015 at which time I will get a 2015 GTI.

This is an issue with all Common Rail VW diesel engines. The 2009+ Jetta SportWagen, 2010+ Golf, 2010+ Jetta sedan, 2012+ Passat.

I put 91k miles on mine before trading it for the BRZ. With the TDI HPFP for the most part it's luck. The failure rate based on data collected at www.tdiclub.com is hovering near 1%. Not that bad, but considering the cost associated with the failure, that's a big risk once mileage starts piling up and the car depreciates enough.

This is scary: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=158

Most of our cars don't see the type of abuse that the Ring cars are subjected to, but still.

How'd you know? Did it eventually throw a CEL, or the chirps got worse, etc.? Or did the tech just tell you so?

It was doing way more than just chirping. The tech didn't know what was wrong, but he said it wasn't going to last much longer. This wasn't one of the trained monkeys either.

So i've developed the chirps as well now.

Is it correct that if you want this fixed under warranty it can only be done by a subaru dealership?

There is no point in getting it "fixed".
