You have my condolences. It absolutely sucks losing a parent.

The only correct statement in your post is that the 458 is on a different level and it should be. It costs nearly 75-100K more than a R8. The R8 was engineered to be an all around exotic car without the typical issues seen with most all exotic cars. The perfect DD exotic car. The car fits perfectly between the porsche 911 turbos (S) and Ferraris, Lambos, etc.

The car gets plenty of attention. Trust me. The 525HP V10 in the rear window is amazing. 6 speed gated shifter. Shifting at 8500 rpm with NA power .... the sound is incredible. Check out R8Talk if you don't think these are car people. The car sits LOW and WIDE unlike porsches and GTRs. Maintenance is EASY. Oil change every 10000 miles at any Audi dealership. No hassles. Car ran perfect for over 2 years of ownership.

I sold mine because I'm ready for something different.

As for the OP: GREAT choice!

wow, some one who says they have a Ferrari, actually owns a Ferrari

I honestly never thought i'd see the day.

That is genuine, "Ferrari Posers" run wild around these parts. You know the type, they say they have a Ferrari but when it comes time to put up or shut up it always seems to be in "the shop".

congrats on the purchase by the way

When I was a teenager in 1975 my parents moved to a small town. The dealer in that small town had a beautiful 69 Swinger sitting in front of the dealership. It was the owner's car and had every single option and upgrade available. It had 500 miles on it and was spectacular. I lusted after it but it was not for sale. When I was in the army a couple of years later it was still there when I went to visit when I came back from deployment. They still would not sell it even though two tires were flat, it hadn't been washed in years and God only knows when it had last been started. Couple of years later I again tried to buy it and they still would not sell it. It now had 4 flat tires, still had not been washed and was starting to rust. Over the next few years I still tried to buy it since it was a rare package and I could have saved it but continued to be told no. When the dealership closed in 1992 what was left of it was hauled away for scrap.
This is why I want one now. I am being very picky though since I have waited 40 years and another couple won't hurt.

Wow, best of luck finding one. Those cars were bombers because they were built tough. I once hit a concrete pillar and the pillar cracked but my 68 had no damage. The 68 Dart I had lasted till the late 80's. Last I heard was a guy bought the car to use it as a beach car. Surfing and fishing.
