Used ABS module programming?
Long story short, used abs module is 1/10 the price of a brand new one. Has anyone ever swapped in an ABS module (same part number and comes from a vehicle with the same transmission) successfully onto their 86?
My story: 2013 BRZ Limited MT - malfunctioning ABS module Will buy another "known" good ABS module from a 2013 BRZ MT. If you have successfully done this, can you please provide the steps you took in order to get the ABS module to pair with the ECU? If impossible to do and a new module is absolutely needed, this information is also good to know. |

You shoukd be fine, not actualky done one myself, but abs module not part of security set so should be plug and play. To be sure use one from another manual car, i think the auto may be different to manual. Same year should ve fine. I suspect 2012-2016 probably same. Pretty sure 2017 onwards will ve different. |

So I've got hold of a used ABS module and installed it. The used ABS module came from another 2013 BRZ MT with the same part number. Followed the typical brake bleeding procedure and let the car sit a bit with the battery disconnected. Fired up the car and now the ABS and Traction control lights are on everytime I start the car. I asked a shop to take a look at why the abs module isn't working and they saw that the abs module was unable to communicate with the ecu. They told me they think it needs to be reprogrammed by the dealer. Any ideas on this? I'm a bit skeptical whether a dealer can fix this let alone work on a part that was installed used.

What was the faulty module doing and how do you know the new module is working properly?

Original ABS module would throw the abs/tsc/brake light on me randomly when I was driving. I took it into the dealer a year ago when the car was still under warranty to look at and they told me it was throwing the code c1288 and they recommend that I replaced the abs module, not covered by warranty. Didn't get to it until now. The used unit was actually bought off ebay from a pick and pull parts store. I bought this 2 weeks ago preparing for the install. The seller said it was tested and functional, not sure how to go about testing it myself. The shop i brought it to after the install didn't suggest the used module wasn't functioning, but at the same time never confirmed it was functioning lol. They only told me they saw that the ecu couldnt pair with the abs module. I'll have to go back and see whats the code its throwing again. I don't have this visibility on my current obdii reader.

Got the shop the grab the code for me, another c1288 code. I'm not quite sure how to go about validating whether the abs unit itself is actually in working condition.

Looks like I maybe back to square one. I'll look into validating the ABS module but I believe the ABS module codes the vehicles VIN number, rhe used module still having the old vehicles VIN. The reason why I'm gettin the c1288 code this time is due to a VIN mismatch, I just can't confirm this since I don't have enough info/evidence. Any experts out there that know ABS modules for our platform, how to test them, and how to program them?

No loose connections, steering angle sensor is working, the tech was able to do a zero point calibration. Nothing looks bent. Would this code come on due to improper bleeding when the used abs module was installed? The subaru techs told me the modules do need to be reprogrammed if a new unit goes in but unsure about a used unit (whether it can be reprogrammed).

Anyone happen to know the OBD II pin layout? Which one is CG and which one is TS? Going to try a zero point calibration on my own, not sure if the shop did it correctly.
