I was having the same thoughts as you with the mixing causing the issues. A 5 gal pail would be a pain, but maybe I could carry a large Jerry can, half fill it, then put in gas and shake it up, put in tank and then repeat.

Also seems like if the car has been sitting then its a bit funny on start but then after driving a block it's back to normal. Maybe there are some further mixture issues.

As for the 2oz thing.... that sounds dubious as heck... Let me know how it goes, although I'm having a difficult time understanding how that's a physical possibility.

Me too 2oz is just not enough, he claims it physiy alters the gas instead of just adding to it, he only sells It locally and isn't what he makes his big money off of, so I do belive him , he's a oldtimer who's been in the oil industry his entire life, and seems to be a genuine Motörhead, I'm back to using the octanium, stuff is kick ass , if only I could mix the ethanol in a can before use but it's a pain in the ass man, I'm gonna stick to the octanium for now

Second article looks good. Now where to find this stuff at a reasonable price? One fo the local guys is contemplating buying high octane race gas for each fill up- bu thtat's going to cost around $30/fill.. which I think is getting out of hand. Really makes me want o consider water/meth injection again.

Good and possibly not good news update:

The Good:

The Good:

I bought a 2 gal Jerry can to pre-mix the ethanol and gas while filling at a gas station, and the car ran perfect from fill up. I realized that gas coming out of the pump is definitely too cold to mix well with the ethanol and this seems to be a solution. Keeping the jerry can half filled with ethanol works great for long trips.

The Bad:

To my surprise the fuel economy was quite a bit worse. Now we know that ethanol has a lower energy desity than regular gas- however, most gas is already pre-mixed 10% ethanol. I was taking non ethanol gas and adding slightly less than 10%. Was not expecting the fuel economy to drop as much as it did. This might be due to me being heavy on the throttle on my first tank to see if things ran smoothly with the new fuel, so I'm going to drive the car normal and see how many km I get on the next tank.

If it's still terrible, then using race gas might be close to as economical as the ethanol... the jury is still out on this one. My next plan of attack will be to try the toluene if I am able to source it locally.

This all makes me want to WMI for a few octane points, but most tuners don't seem to be on board with this. It would sure cut down on costs dramatically, and make the entire process much simpler.

Second tank only got me about 400km Onto Toluene. Was able to find it for <$20/gal at a paint store. Does anyone know how important the ratios are of adding mineral spirits and transmission fluid for a lubricant? Seems like a lot of mineral spirits at almost 25% in the above link :/

Current gas already has a bunch of additives, I'm wondering if straight toluene would be safe at a 10% ratio...

Good news folks! There's an E85 gas station that just opened up in West Vancouver. It's selling E85 @ $1.75/liter.

Arcade Gas Station, 4370 Marine Dr

I just put 5L in with a full tank of 94 and the car ran great. Feels like it has a bit more pep.

I'll post up results of E10 vs 94 on my frs when I get back on the dyno.

Heading over the the Arcade station is worth it just to ogle the owner's car collection. Plus the convenience store near there has some awesome, hard-to find sodas like Cherry Pepsi and Vanilla Coke Max.

I've been running on US 92/93 from Point Roberts for the last week or two and feel like it runs as well as Shell 91 and better than Chevron 94.

What's drawing me to the US gas is the price. Even with the exchange rate and the 2% conversion fee on my credit card, it's still way cheaper than even Vancouver 87.

A Nexus card will be your friend if you decide to go this route. I don't have one yet, but some friends from work have them and they save quite a bit of time at the borders - even small ports like Point Roberts.

Ive been running strait shell 91 with a Cali 91 tune (delicious) and it knocks sometimes but generally it runs alot better than chevron, smoother , the chev 94 is too hit or miss, one tank is decent and the other sucks, the next one too, and the next one too. at least with the shell 91 now my LTFTs get learned and dont have to many variables, the chev 94 being so inconsistant screws with LTFTs so much , and im sick of mixing and chasing additives. it runs nice and strong on the 91 with little to no knock. im sticking with the shell .
