Dealership pricing on parts, but I expected that.

There are couple reasons for a long wait time for some dealerships, specially for mid sized and small sized dealerships.

1) Not all technicians are qualified to do this recall, only Engine Expert, Masters and MDT can do this recall. The bigger the dealership, the more chances they have qualified technicians, the smaller the less qualified techs.

2) Those qualified technicians are also probably the only qualified technicians for other level exclusive recalls like airbags. So, they are busy as well.

3) This recall only pays techs 12-14hours, and it will take at least 2days(16hours) to 3days(24hours). Qualified techs are not really excited to work on your car because they will definitely loose money. They will probably work on something else while working on your car to compensate.

4)If your car is running fine, save time and just have them order the parts. Just bring it in when the parts have arrived.

I went to Longo Toyota where I bought my FRS. I made an appointment waited a week for the parts. I took it in on a Wednesday and picked it up on a Monday. i could have picked it up on Sunday but I was not feeling well (Bad cold), my service rep was off and the onsite Enterprise rental car wasn't open to check in the rental car paid by Longo. Great service! Longo is the Biggest and the Best. I drove 60 miles to have the recall done there. They are the only ones I trust with this major repair.

Not many Subaru dealer info here... Called Ocean Subaru in Fullerton to talk to service advisor maybe 2 weeks back. They confirmed will get loaner car, but need to talk to the recall administrator to schedule (they were 2 weeks out?). Did not call back to schedule yet.

Was thinking maybe I get it done closer to work at LA. Seems choices are Glendale Subaru (closest to downtown, but worrisome reviews) or Subaru Pacific (further away, but seems to have relatively good reviews).

I've been to Glendale and it was a small dealership, so maybe Subaru Pacific will be worth the drive.
Bought the car from Sierra Subaru Monrovia and had fine experience getting the oil changes in the first 2 years (been doing it at home since) as well as the Throw out bearing fix, but maybe Pacific looks more updated/bigger? Or maybe they all updated to look nicer now (been years since I've been to any Subaru dealer).

Checked # of cars at each dealer and surprisingly Glendale has the most?! Anyway, I don't feel like going to Glendale from the reviews.
#2 is Pacific
#3 is Ocean
#4 is Sierra

Will have to decide between Pacific and Ocean...

Anyone have experience with the service department of these 2?

After months of debating where to take my car to get service. I took it to South Bay Toyota in Gardena. My service adviser was Harold Young. I was the fifth person to have it done there.

1. How long did the repair take?

They had to order the recall kit "J02" It took 3 days for them to received it.

When the kit was in. I dropped off my car at 10am. They called the very next day at 4pm to inform me the work was done.

2. Was a courtesy car provided for the duration of the repair?

Yes, through Enterprise it was a 2016 Ford Focus.

3. What other parts were replaced with no additional labor (spark plug, etc)?

Spark plugs was replaced. I was charged $120 for the plugs.

3. What other parts were replaced with additional labor?

I had them install a new Clutch, Flywheel, updated TOB, Fork and Pivot. They charged me $130 for labor.

4. Was the dealer mod-friendly?

Yes, I had no complaints at all. My car is lowered, lightweight driveshaft, pulley, header,
under body braces, full exhaust. I had to revert it back to stock tune.

5. Did they know what they were doing? lol

So far so good. The car is running very smooth. I found it to be quieter then before.
Love the new clutch and lightweight flywheel. Only problem I notice so far is that they over filled my coolant and
didn't replace the oil filter.

Don't think that matters,
My renewal notice just arrived on Saturday. Didn't see anything about the recall.

Is your model year 2012-2013? All the notices should’ve went out and recieved by now.

Since I was replacing the Spark Plugs. They told me they might have to adjust the set timing and idle speed. I would rather have them do that with the stock tune then the OFT.

ok so i took in my car to get the recall taken care of. i took it to Subaru of San Bernardino.

1. How long did the repair take?
i dropped my car off on 2/11/2019, and i picked it up on 2/18/2019

2. Was a courtesy car provided for the duration of the repair?
yes, they lent me a 2019 impreza with all the bells and whistles, free of charge of course.

3. What other parts were replaced with no additional labor (spark plug, etc)?
no other parts were replaced free of charge other than the valve springs, oil, antifreeze and related gaskets.

4. Was the dealer mod-friendly?
i put my car back to stock, so i do not know if they would have been ok with mods.

5. Did they know what they were doing?

i picked the car up and was running fine, like it was before. although i did notice that the car was less rough when idling.

the staff was friendly and my car was clean upon pick up. so i am happy with the experience.
