Where did you get these? I've been looking in all the usual places but nobody stocks any of this series.

The whole works were appraised at almost $3K a few years ago. The cases alone are worth more than most of the cars. Don't know if the value has gone up or down since then.
oh no, mr kitty has a hunger for matchbox cars

one of mine is the same, even needs to be involved when I go to the bathroom... (he normally curls up inside my lowered pants like if he was a kitten and could fit properly)... what an idiot

The brands I remembered having when I was a kid; Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Majorette, Corgi, Tomica, Bburago.

By the mid 80's it was rare to even find Made in England Matchboxes that actually came in a paper box. Everything else became blister packs except for Tomica.

I remember Hot Wheels made ones where the color would change by putting the car under the tap either in hot or cold water. Overtime the color would be stuck in-between lol!

Tomica I guess being true to Japanese cars, their toy cars were usually smaller than their western counterparts but much more detailed. Majorette and especially Corgi were built like tanks! Bburago only made the bigger stuff and those nifty chrome car keychains.

I have about 50. I'm pretty picky about what I buy. The proportions can't be too cartoony and I don't pick up the fantasy or made up cars. I buy mostly race cars, muscle cars, and the classic Japanese stuff. I'll grab a picture of my collection and post it up.

I open EVERYTHING. They aren't going to be worth anything so you might as well play with them and enjoy them. IMO.

All my Matchbox were made in England and came in the paper boxes. I have two that were given to me by and neighbour that were first year runs. Unfortunently I painted on and the other broke but the parts are still there. (Red panel van and grey fuel truck in the case in my pics)
Have two Majorette ones and like you said they were a whole different quality back then Now they are junk but mine are first gen. They also happen to be first release of the batmobile and the Monkees car so that helps.
Have one Corgi and that is the go cart that is in the case.

Now I want to go play with them.
