I love my AT 86. It is my DD and the Auto suits me perfectly. It drives great on the streets in Florida or in the twisties of the mountain roads.

I mean at the end of the day if your having fun in your car, and have the biggest retard smile on your face, don't worry if its a manual or auto. Before i knew how to drive manual i would always tell everyone to buy one. Now after i took the time to learn it, i really don't care what others drive anymore. On a side note, when your playing around 5k rpm in third gear and 4th gear, there's nothing else like it. <3 <3

Yea, but there really is no other way to describe how i feel when im coming into a corner and i "clutch in, rev match, down shift, VROOOOM, clutch out, car gets in gear at around 4k rpm, get out of a corner and get that 80% of the twins full power right away."

I grew up with learning/doing a lot of hand-eye coordination things - piano/guitar/violin, lots of video games. Competitive Starcraft, CS, fighting games, platformers, etc. I'm very happy that I bought the Manual, even if this was a more expensive car say - a porsche, with a DCT option, even if I performed far better with a DCT. There's a lot of nuances that you just can't describe and everyone experiences these nuances differently - not only with the car, but with anything regarding hand-eye coordination. Having driven an auto for years - why not try something new?
When I finally grew comfortable shifting, revving, downshifting, Rev-Matching and all that, it feels very much like a video game to me at times - only it's one of the few things where your hand eye-coordination translates into real control over something in real life. Maybe that's why I don't really appreciate new video games these days - just too automated/easy, none of the struggle. To me it feels like playing Starcraft without any hotkeys. |

I did rush hour traffic for the first time today in my 6MT FR-S. Too much stop and go and lugging the car around in 1-3 gears. At that time I wish I had paddles and rest for my left foot.

An autobox can be shifted through a bend which is unwise in a manual.
Reason is the power flow is virtually uninterrupted during an automatic shift. Apart from a little delay on a standing start the auto box is fantastic. Taller gear ratios across the gears make the automatic more drivable in the real world. My manual shift always has that over eager, frenetic feeling like a terrier after my pant leg, fun for some of the time but can get a bit wearing when you get serious and want to actually get somewhere. |
