Dribble away? You think I actually get to touch any money without prior approval? My pay is direct deposit and I couldn't even guess at how much it is each week since it has been decades since I even saw a pay stub much less an electronic deposit report. And what is this "refund check" thing which you speak of? Is that those paper things that we used to get back in the dark ages?

I don't know any professionals who haven't.

I've known a few who seem like they haven't.

Oh I confirmed that the cargo deck ladder on the O'Brien wasn't there during the WW2 fit. Looks like it was indeed added for the museum access only. We never did get an answer out of the guy.

Expensive year, 2017. Pretty crap all around, to be honest.
I put that right up there with paying income tax on SS "income".

Let's see if I got this straight:

I paid into SS for over 50 years

The government "kept/used" my money for 50 years

Now, they are giving "some" of my money back to me

AND, they are taxing me on MY money, that I gave them, as they give it back to me ......

That makes my brain hurt ...... trying to sort that out .......

Best I take a looooog nap ......

That bench was comfortable. Whenever I'm below deck, I instinctively look everywhere for places where I can stretch out.

The hand rail wasn't stock but it's seaworthy.

To be fair, you weren't taxed on that before - it's deferred taxation at a time when you probably could use a little more of the cash, inflation being what it is. But you also don't see gains from investment had it been in your hands.

Beyond that... enjoy it while you can. Evidently you're a free-loader for, you know, getting a slice of the money you paid in without a choiceso you'd have it when you retire... I have no complaints about the system and the way it was designed to work, but that assumed 'they' keep their greedy grubby hands off.

I don't expect it to be there for me. Right now I'm not even sure the species will survive long enough for me to even miss SS.

whee.

At least we have good health insurance. Last year we hit out of pocket max in January...

Better than hitting the top of your deductible in December and having to do it all over again...

Assuming current retirement age, about half way between my first paycheck and my last. I was 18 when my parents were my age.

That makes me sad.
