Alternator Died After Hard Acceleration

Hey Guys,

Over the weekend I was getting on the highway (from a stop) and ran up through the gears (mostly just 2nd gear) just to have a little fun while getting up to speed, I did approach red line upon shifting into 3rd, after which my battery indicator light came on indicating an issue with the charging system. After some testing I determined the alternator seems to be junk. I'm curious, I have never had that happen as a result of aggressive driving. I'm wondering if it is a result of beating on the car or if it is just crap luck? Maybe both. Perhaps someone more mechanically experienced could weight in, has anyone else had this happen? Note: the car does have 75K miles on it, 2013 BRZ..

Crap luck. There is virtually no history of failed alternators on here and many cars are driven hard.

Yeah running up to redline can't fry your alternator. Sucks but it happens that alternators go. Many times a bad battery will damage an alternator. Change the battery and alternator at the same time no matter how the battery tests.

Yep, @Johnders2586 ,seeing that your car has 75,000 miles on it, I would agree with @guybo, just get a new (remanufactured) alternator and a new battery.
